So, how was your first trip in the motor home? Did you enjoy the excursion? I do hope the rising gas prices don't deter you from long hauls in he future. My best to you and Anne!

Happy birthday, Ian.

You have added such a wonderful dimension to the sudoku experience with your lovely photos.

To celebrate your birthday I am resolving to choose and upload some of my own photos, just to shoulder my share. I'll have to figure this all out, so it may take a little while, but, then, I didn't know your birthday was upcoming. Still, it seems as good an excuse as any to jump into the photo pool, doesn't it?

G'day, Ian; and happy birthday.
I have been mulling over your request for the last few days, trying to decide just how much info you really wanted to know. So... here goes:
I was born 24 Jan 1938... Just kidding; I wont go into that much detail.
I was born in Ohio, grew up in Dallas, graduated from Texas A&M, and, in 1961, entered the Air Force. Went to navigator school, then on to Electronic Warfare Officer School.
My first operational assignment was at Shaw AFB flying in the RB-66C. We did electronic reconnaissance and flew many missions around Cuba. (This was shortly after the 'Cuban missile crisis.')
The biggest break in my career came in 1965 when I volunteered for a super-secret assignment in C-130s. Spent almost 12 years flying the Herk in the States, Vietnam and Germany. My tales about low-level flying and surviving a flight thru a thunderstorm came from those years.
Unfortunately, all good things must come to an end and mine did in 1976 when I was assigned to a tactical air control center squadron writing air tasking orders. I spent the remainder of my career flying a desk, which was too often located in a tent.
I retired from the AF in 1981, looked for a job for a couple of months, and, on my wife's insistance, went back to school. I got an associate degree in data processing. By the end of my first year, I was teaching computer classes part-time, and when I graduated, became a full-time instructor. I taught for almost 20 years and retired again in 2001.
For the last 7 years I been trying to enjoy senior-status: volunteering, traveling, and enjoying life in general. And having a good time doing it, I might add.
That's about it.
If you are so inclined, I would like to hear more about you and your career.
I will be gone for about the next two weeks, but will try to check the sudoku page when I can.
Cheers, Hal.

Hello Ian, I'm glad you enjoyed your birthday. You were right the quote is Ogden Nash. He is one of my favourite poets too along with Spike Milligan, another one. I see you have your 'little van' to travel in now which must be quite wonderful to get around in. Enjoy it to the full xx

Ian, I am quite sorry to have missed your birthday. Please take a cue from what my family does - we celebrate a birthday week or at the very least a long birthday weekend. My good friend Jenn always says that your birhtday isn't over until you open your last present. So here's to a wonderful birthday that will last all year. Take care and I hope you spent your day surrounded by loved ones!
