Hi Linda, re yesterday's puzzle - my comment re wild rose...believe you are right about the colours white w/pink and dark pink. Don't think there is a yellow wild rose... So... this must truly be St. John's Wort.
Aren't the comments interesting - a learning tool and a fun site with some awfully nice people.

Hi Gramma Linda. I was reading the posts on Jigsaw & saw yours about the spider on the wall: it's not the one on the wall you need to worry about it's the one under the toilet seat!! There's an Australian song called "Redback on the Toilet Seat" about old houses & out door toilets! Welcome to sudoku & I'm sorry I haven't been to visit you before! I wanted to give you a flower but my smilies wont open! So I'll come back later!

Hi Gramma Linda,
To get back to the Sudoku site you enjoy chatting on, look on the left side of the page for the jigsaws. You will see where it says "Where do these pictures come from?", and there is a link to click that gets you where you want to go. Easy peasey!

Saw your comments about the Bali prawns lunch - ha! MY supper consisted of examining the contents of my fridge and warming up some not terribly good potato gratin - and some sorry end-of-season tomatoes. The cereal might have been better! But I got a chuckle out of your mealtime predicament, empathizing greatly! I guess you, too, live alone. In rural WV I do not go out as often as most folks, so meals are often on the wing, and not always something to write home about. It's better when I cook for my dog, Sandy (don't laugh) because then there will be chicken, baked (I do four breasts each time which give us four meals), or the other night a nice omelette (she gets the bigger part) - you get the picture! She's old and won't eat unless I fix something nice (i.e. - people food) for her, so it's a good thing for me as well.
Well, enough babbling for tonight! Have a good evening!

Hey, Gramma Linda - you got me chuckling on that comment on Lourdes _"I used to want a nice house, but now would be happy to have a pleasant cleaning lady" or something like that (if I go back to check the comment, I lose my comment here - did that several times before my brain retained that information!). Anyway, I really enjoy your humour and wry comments - thanks for brightening my day!

So true, Gramma Linda, I DO still have Important Stuff from days past, but my best is my teddy bear (cleverly named "Bear" - after all, I vaguely remember getting him in a toy store when I was probably around three or less - isn't that odd: as soon as I wrote that I had a memory of that store, with huge - to me - glass cases all filled with toys, and Bear was the only thing I really wanted. He is no longer pink, his plush coat looks rather dingy, his head flops forward and his nose is squished to one side, but he is priceless!

Hi Gramma Linda, re: your question about the Sydney Harbour Bridge...
Apart from the fact that it is such a recognisable feature of Sydney (after the Sydney Opera House), it is also a really important bridge. Sydney is built around a very big harbour, and until this bridge was built (1920's or 30's, I think), to get from the South Shore to the North Shore entailled a long inland drive. I'm sure ferries existed then, but think about what change that bridge would have brought!
The main CBD is on the southern side of the harbour, but tourism certainly takes people to all parts of Sydney. There are many beautiful beaches both north and south, but there are also many places around the harbour that are worth checking out. I'm still trying to get to many of them myself!
Hope that's not too much info, cheers

Linda, I found a lot of discussion about the red church doors at this site http://www.secaucus.org/oursaviour/churchdoors.html
But, at the end of the day, I'd have to conclude nobody really knows. How clever of you to ask! Judy

You are very welcome for the info, I really hope it is mostly correct... I have lived in Sydney 17 years (since my marriage) and know that some year recently the bridge celebrated its 75th birthday, so it gives me a rough estimate of dates. Also, inside the pylons at one end is a museum with heaps of information about the bridge's construction. It's really interesting, and I SHOULD remember the dates but I'm a bit hopeless!
I love to think about what it must have been like for Sydney people before the bridge... my imagination works too well sometimes, but I think it would have made a really big difference to many people.
I'm really enjoying your imagination at times here in Sudokuland.. Keep up the good work!!

Well, Gramma, back news from WV - Sandy died Friday. She started to decline - loss of appetite - then developed the symptoms of liver failure that I had been dreading for years (she escaped her pen and was poisoned years ago, and always showed a bad reading in blood tests), and Friday I released her. This was a blessing as it turned out she had liver and spleen cancer. We had a good walk together before I took her in to the vets on Thursday - they did several checks to make sure she just hadn't eaten something awful, but no.....
Now I eat vegetarian. Maybe my appetite will pick up soon, who can say.

Hope all goes well with you!

Gramma Linda, so where in very rural Iowa are you from? I grew up in Waterloo, but had all sorts of relatives in the country. I also spent some time working in Des Moines and around Cedar Rapids. I was visiting relatives back there this last summer and believe I have a photo or two from that visit coming up eventually. I have noticed how well you express yourself and am grateful for the time you take to write your comments. It's hard to choose which I enjoy most from these sites: the puzzles, the photos, or the comments from which I learn more about this world and the people in it. And thank you for the compliments on my photos! I am a slow-w-w-w writer, so I don't write very many comments, but I definitely enjoy reading what others have to say.

Hi, Wilodene! I'm from the other half of Iowa, the side most people think of in terms of corn and soybeans rather than people. Fort Dodge is the biggest town (and closest Mac D's) near us. We're about 25 miles west of there. Our mail comes through the Rockwell City post office and our kids went to school there. Jolley is the nearest town - population about 50-60 people, no commas needed! Jolley still has a post office, but no rural routes. While Jolley is 1.5 miles north of our farm, Twin Lakes is 5 miles east. No 'town' there, but more people all the time. Calhoun is our county, population under 9,000 people, 10's of thousands of hogs in big confinement buildings, and 1 stoplight in Manson, about 15 miles NW of us! You may have heard about the building of new highway 20. Well, our gravel road will be a frontage road on the north side of 20, so we'll have a lot more people going by in a year or two. Right now the only strangers who go buy are lost!! Thank you for the positive comments about my writing. It is one of my few remaining prides. I have fibro myalgia, chronic fatigue, anxiety problems and (Who'd a thought!) depression, so can't do many of the things I used to love. Rockwell City has a men's prison and I taught there almost 20 years. Loved the teaching, finally couldn't take having 3 sets of bosses, yearly budgeting woes, and people who hadn't taught in a prison telling us what and how and to whom we should teach! I didn't mean to write a book here. Thanks for sending me a message and you have my permission to take a nap now! Linda
PS I have been to both Waterloo and Cedar Rapids, both nice cities. Well, my brother and his wife teach at UNI, so I may not have been to Waterloo...

Thank you, Linda, it is true about special pets. I just looked at my previous message and realized something got lost in the meaning, but it was to say I cooked special meat meals for Sandy, now avoid meat as I don't really get hungry these days. And it was bad news, not back news.
I have acquired, without intent, a funny rescue dog, he came to live with me four days ago, an unadoptable fellow who had been badly abused through most of his short life. The long and short of it is that he pees under excitement, so I have decorated my living room in fetching blue plastic tarps with old blankets covering them. I have made a rule that anyone entering the premises be CALM - or they must mop up the result. He is so needy for affection and stability - I have still that ache in my heart for Sandy, but how could I let this guy continue without a caring home?

Hey, Linda, what happened to your barn? How did it get blown down? Personally, I hate pulling out nails - I end up bending them and can't get them out. I would offer to come help you but that would be a bad thing for you!

Linda, I am so sorry about your loss of your cats! I have indoor/outdoor cats and have tried to deal with the fact that I may well lose them. My Sammie, my one-eyed kitty, disappeared the day I got Jasper due to a stupid mistake on the part of a friend (Sam was with her buddy on the front porch when the friend thoughtlessly let out her dog (untrained) and my dog (brand new, here only four hours) and they rushed the cats. I never saw Sammie again, and worry myself over her, but fear she has not survived. Her boyfriend has been seen by a neighbor, but not Sammie, who was pretty feral. She loved me, but was leery of others. Oh - she had a boyfriend because she went into heat - after three hysterectomies! Apparently a bit of stray ovary can cause them to do this, even if they will never have kittens. So it was a period of time when she was outside with her boyfriend, and apparently ran off with him. As I live in a rural area, there is no place to post a "lost" notice. I guess I was lucky that Jasper didn't run off, too, and get lost - he wouldn't have known where to go as he hadn't acclimated to "home" at that point.

I didn't say that the loss of my Sammie came a week and a half after my dog Sandy's death, so it was another blow to my heart. I swear all the time I will never get attached to another pet, but you know how that goes.
