Hi Jim, I live in a small town about 20 minutes from Lewiston. My husband actually grew up there, but he could be considered "from away" by some Mainers since he was born in New Jersey (Army brat). I'm a true Mainer, born in Lewiston and raised on a small farm in a nearby town.

How long ago did you live here?

I hope you are enjoying your trip. And I hope you are able to take some time to sightsee with your wife when she arrives!

Jim, thank you for the birthday wishes - that was the only post I received from China! That helps make a memorable day. I am very interested in your photos, but need to cook dinner for everyone shortly, so will plan on returning when I have more time. Thanks again for your efforts and I plan on taking advantage of your photos to expand my horizons, too.

Enjoyed your blog on traffic, honking & bikes. There didn't seem to be much honking involved when I was in Milan, Italy last week, but the motorbikes, scooters & bicycles seem to have their own 'special' lane there... right down the centerline between the two opposing traffic lanes! They all seem to have a death wish because they use this special lane from BOTH directions! Was thinking that they really knew what they were doing because they seemed to be very precisely synchronized in their timing ...but if a "newbie" hesitantly hit the lane it would probably be one massive pileup!

Jim, the cycling sounds terrifying! Have you thought of installing a Klaxon horn on your bike? Now THAT would be amusing!
Stay safe friend.

Jim, your trip to the embassy sounded so grim. You write so well, I honestly felt like I was there and did not like the feeling it left me with.
So terribly sorry to hear about your wallet. With everything else that has gone on, you must feel very alone and isolated at the moment. Thank heavens you have computer access, it means you will always have friends right at your fingertips.
Good luck with your stay extension and I am sure everything will get better from here!

Hi there Jim,

I saw that you were stuck in Vancouver and that your son was travelling the 5-6 hours (each way and probably more) to get you.

I hope that you are home now with Maureen and your family and am wishing you and your loved ones a wonderful Christmas this year

for your cyber friendship. I enjoy your comments and we had fun with your cyber name the other night.

I guess that while we swelter in Darwin you will
have a whilte Christmas but whatever and however, may it be a lovely celebration for you.

Here’s the traditional

LEMON CORDIAL
Ingredients:
Juice of 7 large lemons
Grated rind of 5 large lemons
1 kg sugar
1.25 litres of water
25g citric acid
Method:
1.In a large pan, boil up sugar, water, grated peel and citric acid.
2.Take off and add juice, If preferred, this may be strained.
3.Bottle whilst still hot into clean, sterilised (in oven) bottles

Mix it with gin and soda if you want an alcoholic drink.... or with whiskey, honey and hot water for a hot toddy.

May 2009 be a healthy, peaceful, joyful, hopeful, satisfying year for you in Beijing for the first 6 months and even more so on your return to your family.

Welcome back to Oregon. When did you get home? I haven't had much time lately to be on the site. Today, I had gone back to do some of the hard puzzles I missed and noticed a post from you. Next week, I'll be headed up to Seaside for a convention & stopping at Trader Joes. We still don't have a TJs in this area, yet....been waiting almost 15 years for one. Nearest is now in Redding - headed south & Eugene headed north.

Thanks Jim for your comments on 24/9/10. I agree my step 3 is a bit long and unwieldy. After locked 7 at ce3, I got g1=7=b8;UP31. You say UP32, sotir says UP33. I can,t get more than to UP31.

Regards, Alfred.
