Oh, you are going to China? How marvelous, and for research? most interesting, would love to hear a bit about that if you can tell. I have a son in law who left research for private sector, his area was Analytical chemistry and quantum physics, and I almost understood some of what he did, I could at least ask intelegent questions hehe. . . . Ok, maybe not intelegent, but not too dumb.

Hello Jim, and I am glad you are finding the air quality OK. There has been a lots of adverse publicity over here, and some of the athletes are being based in Malaysia or Singapore, and only being flown in for their events. Probably just another media 'beatup'!! The 'blue cube' looks fantastic on TV, and it must be great to see it live. We had the most wonderful and exciting time when the Olympics were here, especially as we had a friend competing in the Para-olympics. Enjoy!!

Hi Jim. How exciting to be in China doing scientific research. You'll have to keep in touch and tell us all about what it's like there!

Will you be able to see any of the Olympics?

My dream, since I was a child was to go to the Olympics. In 1984, the Olympics came to us in LA. We took our vacation that year and attended events everyday from the Opening to the Closing Ceremonies. It wasn't a cheap vacation, but at least there was no air-fare or hotel bills and even the meals were cheap "considering". Some days we even attended more than one event.

I understand the ticket prices are a LOT higher than in 1984. If you can get some tickets (for a reasonable price or given to you) do take advantage. Keep us apprised of how it's going over in that part of the world.

If I remember correctly that in 1984 Opening was $400 and closing was $200. We were lucky in the lottery to purchase tickets we got best for opening (about 40 yard line - 30 rows up). Our closing tickets were not quite as good about 20 yard line and a lot higher. We had season seats for soccer at the Rose Bowl (4 miles from our home) also on the 40 yard line (included semi & finals plus). We also had tickets for Basketball, Baseball, Track & Field & Woman's field Hockey. Wanted but didn't get Diving, Swimming & Gymnastics. All of our tickets were direct purchase from the lottery, not scalped or from ticket agents. The diving events were held in the pool which I had competed several times in my youth.

Yes, I do love music, that is one reason I volunteer at Britt Festivals. Some of it though, is not my cup of tea and leave after I'm finished working that evening. The shows I really want to see, I make sure that I don't hve to work during the actual show and can sit back, relax and enjoy.

I lived in LA for 5 years - in eagle Rock, right near Broadway and Eagle Rock Blvd! The Eagle theater was a block away. small world!

Were you a competitive swimmer? what was your stroke? At what level did you compete?

Jim, I see you are in China, how long will you be there? I do hope you have the opportunity to be part of the Olympics, that would be a great experience.
Will you have the chance to explore some of the country also?? Hubby & I had made plans to go to China in May, had to cancel the trip when he had a problem with his toe. The next week was when all the problems in Tibet started, so would not have been able to go there even though that was part of the trip.
Enjoy your stay in China,

Hi there Jim,

Thanks for inviting to put me on you friends list. Very kind of you to include an irregular dropprt inner ... which is what I am these days.

I've decided that I'm not going to have a sudoku friends list. I spend more than enough time on this site anyway without those extra lures. The puzzles and pictures and occasional comments already eat into my leisure time. I will still look forward to sharing comments on site and on each other's page from time to time.

Blessings ... and have a brilliant time in China.

Hello Jim,

Read your blog and viewed the photographs. The scale of the buildings look enormous. I especially like the water bowl, I'm guessing that was wonderful to see. I hope you keep up with the blog and I shall read it with interest. Thanks for letting me know.

Thank you Jim for sharing. I like the pictures.... and was surprise to see trees along the road.... I had the impression trees were only in parks environment. I always wonder how so many people can leave together in small places. I only know large place like Canada and Australia. I'm glad you can share your experience. Keep up with the good work. I'm looking forward to read your post again. You are added to my favorites

dear Jim (from a fellow Leo)
to you

The weather isn't cooperating - yesterday was 108°, today, my "medicare" birthday, is suppose to be 105° (and smoke).

Mom called this morning to sing me Happy Birthday. Last year I was in So. Cal. with her for my Birthday. Tonight, I will be working Britt & listening to Midori and the Britt Orchestra, and being Pop Corn Queen - a title I got several years ago. [Not a fun job when it is hot - sun on the back & heat from the kettle. But during classical allows time to mix with friends.] I've found the least amount of clothes I'm allowed to wear and still be presentable.

Enjoying your stuff from Beijing. Does your work schedule allow you to get to see any of the sporting events? Or are they not 'your thing'? I'm enjoying all these sports - even where we are not doing well - on a 37" LCD TV and undoubtedly seeing much more than if I was there. But it is not the same as actually being there is it? Roll on 2012.

Jim, I know you're in China and eagerly waiting for the arrival of the lovely Maureen! Here's a weird question for you for when you've got a spare minute ... if you can help, great, or perhaps point me in the right direction: if a man in Oregon physically assaults his wife/puts her in the hospital, how long can the police hold him in custody? (Also a suspect in his child's kidnapping ...)If the wife refuses to press charges, thinking his release might lead police to their daughter, can the police lay charges anyway? There, bet you didn't predict that on your page!
