Great to hear that things are going well for her. She may have trouble in a room of people, picking up a particular conversation, because of too much to process. Can she hear music and the WORDS to the songs on a radio?

That is such wonderful news. I cannot really imagine what your daughter is going through. I am sitting in my living room with almost nothing on, I hear a plane flying above, the hum of the appliances in the kitchen and the taping of keys. I guess I have always taken the sounds for granted.
I have no idea what my point is so I was just say I am so happy for your daughter and you too.

Amen Mary! Kate, don't ever feel that you cant say what you want, where you want. There's plenty here who would like to censor the content but tough t*tties to them!
Absolutely BRILL news for Liz. The world that we take for granted is just opening up for her. How exciting.
How's your son going in his new job?

Kate (aka Tree Sheila) so happy for your daughter and you. I can't imagine all of the sounds and words that she can hear now. It's all very exciting and I'm glad she's doing well with the implant.

How exciting, to hear her child's voice for the first time, must have been very emotional, give that is what drove her to the implant.

Kate, It was so good to learn of the hearing process that Liz is going through. I love the idea that she is able to turn the instrument off when necessary. I would imagine that the myriad of sound can be off putting at times.....I have a hearing loss and am so happy to remove or turn off my aids at times to regain some much needed peace! Praying for continued improvement and happiness for all.

Hi Kate. I'm so pleased to 'hear' that Liz is adjusting to her implant. I'm sure it will take quite some time for her, and I can't begin to imagine how special it must be. I can understand why she needs to turn it off to get some relief right now as she adjusts to it. Do pass on my best wishes to Liz, and I hope she gets to hear all the sounds we take for granted in our daily live, Cheers!

Hi. Just popped in to see if there was an update on Liz. Early days but good news. How many electrodes have they switched on? What an amazing Christmas this will be for her - fancy being able to hear for the first time the ooh's and aah's of children when they open their presents. I do remember the stage with my MIL when she couldn't wait to turn it off at night. It is an almighty adjustment - we forget how noisy our world is. My mother never adjusted to her hearing aids - liked to be able to turn us all off! One advantage of being deaf when you have 7 children and 11 grandchildren.

Hi, I read your post to Gail about storm clouds. If you are interested in such, I would recommend www.mesoscale.ws. It is a website maintained by a storm chaser, now deceased, named Eric Nguyen from Stillwater, Oklahoma. His picture gallery is remarkable

I followed the dialogue quite closely yesterday late and derived a great deal of entertainment from it. It is often difficult for me to write in a way that emotes the true sentiment I wish to convey. Sarcasm salted lightly with a pinch of cynicism tucked neatly into the cheek was my intention. The cold hard truth of the matter is that the more people complain on site about the behavior of others, the more obstacals that are put in place by Gath. This site is a microcosm of what we in the democratic societies have created for ourselves by trying to legislate behavior. We are slowly giving our freedoms away in exchange for a false sense of feeling 'safe'.
