Thanks again Greg, and thanks for the compliment. I suspect the deceptive appearance is from lack of hair loss, and so far minimal grayness. It certainly isn't from being in shape.

Yes, Greg, I enjoyed the two-day celebration! I've missed visiting your site for too long of a time - I love your polar bear photo, and all the rest, too. It's fun how you have included historical photos. Thanks for the birthday wishes; this was my first birthday as a single person in years, and I was ambivalent about a celebration, but it turned out well. And thank you, too, for enjoying my attempt to share the beauty of this area through photos. I have always appreciated your positive influence on this site!

Greg thank you for dropping by my page with condolences. My dad was only 65 when he died which was pretty shocking at the time. The last 5 years has seen the demise of my mum and both of my in-laws. It leads me to think at times that getting old for some really sucks..to put it bluntly. It results in a particularly difficult type of grief for the offspring to accept... watching the ones that you love decline in such a graceless fashion.

I have certainly reviewed the way my father left this earth. I am not planning on following the example set by any of my forefathers... But for now I am trying to line up all my ducks, tie off all the loose ends and sort out anything that is preventing me from getting over there and annoying [sorry...meant meeting] all of the topsiders that I can.

Consider yourself warned...
Ciao.

Hey..Greg... if the lure of a traditional double chocolate fudge beavertail pastry from Ottawa wasn't enough to send me in your direction then calling me a 'young lady' certainly does... but then again you are only as young as you feel...think I need a 'toy boy'? LOL

That would be wonderful if you did make it downunder.. would be happy to help you with any ideas ...as if you don't have enough of your own. Keith realised after talking to me that Melbourne was the place to be.. I can be a very good spruiker.. But then again i need to get over there [hopefully next year] because Mama isn't heading down this away and we have a lifetime of nattering to do!

Hi Greg
Have a look in Amelia's photo gallery. I've lost 13 kg since then but still have lots to go. I'll post an after picture when I get to desired body mass.

Hi again Greg
I have told Mrs Saylz if I lose enought weight to fit comfortably into a plane seat I would go to Canada with her. We have a friend in Edmonton who spent a number of years in the 70's teaching in Australia. We would do the Anchorage cruise, the Rockies train trip and after Edmonton across Canada by rail, eventually to NY where Janet has a friend she met in Europe last year who lives in the Hamptons. Then fly home. I should be retired by the end of next year so this would probably happen in your spring 2012. Might get to meet you then. Daughter #1 was at Whistler straight after the winter Olympics and gave us rave reviews after having driven from Montreal to NY to LA then to Vancouver. Had a great time skiing. Apparently it's a lot less hassle flying into Canada than the USA.
Cheers

Hi Greg,
Hey, thanks a lot for your comments on my latest pix. I sure enjoyed taking them.
I have to admit that the Whaling Wall picture was 'doctored' somewhat. The original had two light poles that really distracted from the mural... so I took 'em out!!
You wanted to know about the boardwalk... I wasn't there, but Barbara said the entire garden was about two acres and that the boardwalk wound throughout the whole garden.
What, your not into things like zip-lining??
That was one of the best parts of the trip. I'm happy that I can still do that kind of thing. And I think it impresses the grandkids too.
Oh, and about the miners paying well... I imagine that after four or five months of panning/digging for gold with nothing but a friendly fist for company, I'd pay well for female company too.
I hadn't seen your gallery in a while, so I took another look. Love the pix of you in the 70s. Hee, hee.

Hi Greg. Thanks for stopping by my page with your birthday wishes. You are such a thoughtful guy. I meant to tell you that 12 of the 17 people on our Africa tour were Canadians, all very nice people. Rob really hit it off with one guy who was a former Canadian Mounty. One of these years we must make a trip to Canada. Hope you have a good weekend. Stay warm & well.

Greg, thank you very much for your thoughtful Christmas message. Anne and I are well and we will be joined by two of our three children for Christmas this year - and that includes the one from Montreal, who has been invited to address the staff and students of Melbourne University on the work he is doing. We get to see him briefly during his short time here.
Anne and I hope you have a joyous Christmas and a bright and healthy New Year.
Take care Mate.

How lovely. Thank you for your Christmas greetings. And the same to you and yours.

We are expecting a 34C day for Christmas and a nephew has asked for a 'traditional' meal--so out with the playfulness of the last few years when we had paella or other forms of festive fair and in with oysters followed by turkey with all the
trimmings.

My stepson is returning to Australia following 4 years in Colombia studying and volunteering so it will be lovely to have him back.

We are spending Dec 26 - Jan 2 at my partner's family's beach house which will be wonderful--we all need a rest.

Best wishes

Greg - thanks for the note, and, YES, we do celebrate Christmas. Jeanie and I will be ushering at church at an early Christmas eve service and then heading for New Mexico where we will have a bit over a week. All of our kids will be out there for at least part of the time, so we will enjoy ourselves.
Merry Christmas to you, and have a wonderful New Year.
I am going into the hospital in the morning to hopefully rule out any heart problems - having pains and shortness of breath, but non-invasive testing didn't find anything. I am hoping the doctor will tell me the biggest thing is that I have to lose weight.

Hi Greg
Thank you very much for your Christmas Greetings. We are having Christmas at home with my siter in law (The one that went to Rome with my wife), her husband and our youngest daughter coming from Sydney. Our son who lives in Tasmania will also be here.
My wife and and I are definitely visiting Canada in the next year or so. We have to visit our friend in Edmonton before we are all too old to remember who we all are. We want to do the Alaska Cruise and the Rockies train trip. Then across Canada by train and then down to NY to visit other friends.
I also want to get to a harness track or two and perhaps a stud farm while in North America.
Maybe we'll get the chance to meet then. I hope Ausgust 2011 but I suspect it is more likely to be in your spring 2012.
I hope you and and yours enjoy a great Christmas and have a fantastic 2011.
Cheers from the great south land.
