Merry Christmas to you and your beautiful family.

Here's an oldie but a goodie.

"Grandma got run over by a reindeer.
Walking home from our house Christmas eve.
You can say there's no such thing as Santa,
but as for me and grandpa we believe.
She'd been drinking too much eggnog,
and we begged her not to go.
But she forgot her medication, and she
staggered out the door into the snow.
When we found her Christmas morning,
at the scene of the attack,
she had hoof-prints on her forehead,
and incriminating Claus marks on her back.

Now we're all so proud of grandpa,
He's been taking this so well.
See him in there watching football,
drinking root beer and
playing cards with Cousin Mel.
It's not Christmas without Grandma,
All the family's dressed in black
and we just can't help but wonder:
Should we open up her gifts,
or send them back?
Send them back!!

Now the goose is on the table
and the pudding made of fig
and the blue and silver candles
that would just have matched
the hair on grandma's wig.
I've warned all my
friends and neighbors
better watch out for yourselves,
they should never give a license
to a man who drives a sleigh
and plays with elves.

Nal for your beautiful present, not just today, but throughout this whole past year of 2007. You have added so much beauty to so many people's lives with your superior talents as a photographer. I delight in seeing the beauty of nature through your lens. And your wonderful quotes & outlook on life in general add even more to my enjoyment. By the way, I've also taken some time to look at Kathy & Marshall's wedding photos which are wonderful in a different way. Kathy was certainly a beautiful bride! Been wondering if the newlyweds got back from their honeymoon before Christmas? Hope you & all your family, including the four-legged members, enjoy continued love, peace, health, & happiness all the way through 2008.

Gday Nal, great to see you around. I bet you are taking a well-earned breather after your hectic December.
That is a great photo of a creepy crawly. Glad it's only on the screen, otherwise you'd hear the screams from here!

Nal,
How does one describe you,
beautiful just doesn’t do you justice.

What are you thinking
What has captured your mind
What is it you see
Your smile holds the secret
Of what your eyes hold

What am I thinking
What have I seen
The face of Beauty
The face of Love
The face of an Angel
This is what I see.

Oh Nal, yes I know. My mother has Alzheimers. She was diagnosed 8 years ago and in caring for her I've watched her go from merely confused and in serious denial to a behavior of a five year old. She's still at home but becoming more and more out of my father's capabilities to care for her even with my help.
God bless you.

Nal, What a WONDERFUL photo.Look at the photo which shows so much character in her face and remember the person she was not who she is now. You certainly took that photo with love.

I have seen alzheimers in other families but have been fortunate that my mother who died at 85 was still holding office in several organisations and MIL who is also 93 goes out to bingo etc.
FIL was still driving at 90 when he passed away.

It's a beautiful photo, Nal, but it probably shows you the progress of the illness. Alzheimer is a great problem in France and nothing's done to help the families. Bon courage!

Nal - it is hard dealing with dementia (Alzheimers, being a form). My mother's sister (alzheimers) and my father and his brothers (demintia) along with some of their wives. I kept fearing the day that I visted my Dad and he would not know who I was. It may sound awful, but I'm glad that he died before that day came.

My cousins (Mom's side) & I used to kid around that we best contribute to find a cure, since it is hereditary. Now both of them are gone - both dying way too young - leaving only me & my Mom. I thank God, that at 86 she is sharp as a tack. I believe that the day she stops working will be the day she dies.

The other day their was a photo of an old man, with time etched upon his face. The picture of your Mom is quite similar in many ways. Thank you for sharing. It is tough remembering who they were, but those memories will remain - just dampened by todays view. Love to you & God's blessings be upon you and your Mom.

nal, thank you for sharing your photo of your mum. Many of us can identify with what you're going through. She is blessed to have a daughter as caring as you. I firmly believe that you reap what you sow, so I have no doubt that she is indeed a wonderful mother. Best wishes for both of you.

Nal - no doubt about it - she does look good.

I rember my mother getting upset with my Uncle for putting his wife (my mother's sister) in a home. Harry was legally blind and it was too much for him to care for her - so he put her in a care home 3 blocks from his home and spent most of the days with her. Years later, when my father got out of the hospital, Mom could not care for him and put him in a home then he was transfered to the VA Hospital where he lived for 3 years before passing away. It is hard to be a caretaker, especially if you have your own problems to deal with. I think my Mom learned that Harry wasn't wrong in putting his wife in a home, he did what was best for her - when it was not practical for him to care for her, just as it was not practical for Mom to care for Dad. All you can really do is love them and be there for them. That is why I would go down to LA every other month for those 3 years to see Dad and give Mom a break to get away and do some traveling.

Nal...I can never say enough about your ability to capture a subject that is reflective of life as it is and yet contains a beauty that goes well beyond what may be expected. You have captured the duality of strength of character as well as the poignancy of loss in your mom's face. Your hand and eye were certainly guided by love. Like many others, My family has lost three members to this horrible disease that afflicts too many. Peace and love in all of your dealings, continued prayers for you and yours.
