Thank you for your concerned post. I just took that horrid medication for flu symptoms. Now I guess I'll retire, funny, even though I slept through the day, I still can retire this early. Will try to follow your orders!!! (Just discovered I had this message posted on my own page - like you're going to find it. Shows how out of it I was!)

Jane, I'd conditionally vote for either car. The first: Only if you keep the top down, i.e. become a topless motoring fanatic.
The second: Only if there is a place to mount an M-240.
Check out our second childhood toy on my page and give something like that consideration.

Jane just dropped by to say that I am thinking about you as the anniversary draws close. With the time difference I am unseemly early but better that than to find myself so busy in a couple of days that find that I can't get back.
I hope your sister in law and family are doing ok.

Jane - glad you solved the mystery of my Xmas pics. They're on FB. Pure laziness on my part. Don't have to resize them for FB. If we'd got a really good one of the lights, I would have made the effort but the one I posted on FB is very dull compared to the actual brightness of the lights.

Glad you enjoyed the casserole. My husband always looked down his nose at casseroles, until he had my aunt's (long since departed) Ham, Turkey Cheese Bake. She was the best cook in the family, even though she was Norwegian (which all of my aunts & uncles were on dad's side of the family (only my mom wasn't Norwegian).

Went out Tuesday night in the 20° fog, next morning woke up with a runny nose, which now has moved into my chest and curtailed all of the other things I had planned for the week. Missed our Jacksonville Victorian Christmas Parade tonight. It was below freezing by 6 PM tonight but no fog. Figured better to stay in. I have to get well before heading down to LA.

Since Thanksgiving has passed, figured it was time to update my Utube for the Christmas Holidays and posted a photo of the rendering of the La Cañada Flintridge 2010 float - "Scissored Wizard" in my Gallery. Hope you will stop by and take a peak.

Hi Jane, and thanks for the cat diet info. I'll look up the brand you suggested. We've been feeding all three of our guys special food from the vet's for years (ka-ching), and when we suspect Arthur starting to strain, we switch from a maintenance diet to something called "dissolution" formula, which is specifically designed to break up struvite crystals. He's been chomping on the dry for awhile, and usually switching immediately to the canned food alleviates the symptoms, but this time it didn't seem to do the trick. Now we've got antibiotics and relaxants, plus the dreaded subcutaneous fluid duty, which is horrible. Apparently cats who have an episode are prone to repeat attacks--this is Arthur's third, plus several minor flareups which we've managed to scare away. We'll see how this goes, but I'll certainly investigate the food you mentioned. Thanks a million! Hope all's well at your end ... sounds like you've been exercising up a storm.

You may have said so and I missed it, but what did you make to take to the wine and food tidbits party? And did you end up taking an ice wine? What were some of the memorable pairings other people brought?

Wow. I very much enjoy discovering great pairings between wine and food. I would SO like to join a party like yours.

After we "talked" about ice wines, I went to Meijer grocery store and found a bottle of Natchgold Eiswein on sale for 17.99. I have to figure out what I'll serve it with then I'll open it. If you have any ideas, let me know.

I'm just casting about here: I was thinking along the line of a something peaches and cream but thought that might be over the top on sweetness and richness, so then thought about an apricot kernal macaroon. I'm just not sure. Maybe a made from scratch yellow cake?

You know, I usually don't drink sweet wines and don't even usually like pairing sweet with sweet, so I'm more inclined to go with a less sweetened starch or dairy with a sweet wine than something that's loaded with sucrose, which, IMO tends to bash the fruit sugars in a sweet wine rather than complimenting them.

Anyway, on the same trip to the grocery - and thinking about dessert wines, which I don't usually do - I challenged myself to buy a bottle of port. I've never tried port because I thought it was just a darker, more cloying version of cream sherry.

I picked out a Dow's ruby port and a port-marbled cheese and a white, crumbly new-cheddar style cheese with bits of dried cranberries in it. Starr made semi-crisp chocolate cookies with white chocolate chips.

I was pleasantly surprised to find that port is much better than I remember sherry being. The port went very well with the two cheeses (IMO better with the crumbly cranberry cheese) and the cookies, which were a good texture, but I would have prefered no white chocolate chips, as they taste artificial to me.

So, I have read up a little on port wines and want to try a tawny port next with the cranberry cheese, but go a little more semi-sweet on the chocolate and move to a chewy-smooth-rich texture.

I've also looked up sherry. My mom used to give me a little bit of cheap cream sherry when I had menstrual cramps and my opinion has never been good. I keep a bottle of dry sherry for one or two fantastic seafood cream sauce recipes that depend upon it.

I guess that since port was a good surprise, I'm willing to be pleasantly surprised by a good sherry well-paired. So I looked on the i'net and found a sherry spiced gruyere fondue I'd like to try.
