Great YouTube, Eve. I love seeing old buildings and scenery and there was certainly plenty of both. The scenery was lovely.

Hi Eve, I got back on to view your pictures and the one of your dog. They really are good friends. We no longer have a dog because the neighbors have many dogs and cats that are left to their own devices. We have some chickens and one guinea (bird) and he is our pet. We have had perhaps 40 guineas in the past but the dogs have killed them. (as well as many of the chickens) but this one has out lasted the dogs interest. We call him George. Remember Lonesome George Gobel? He is a lonesome guinea. He pre-dates the chickens and has had to make the roosters know that it is he that is in charge. Now he gets along with the last remaining rooster.. or, that rooster "gets along" with him. He is very popular in the neighborhood (we live in a rural area) and I am ask about him when I see neighbors in town. I wonder what the natural life expectancy of a guinea would be. Here at our place he has lived far longer than expected. May your doggy live far longer than expected in good health.

Thanks, Eve, for the advice about gathering family history from my 95 year-old mother. I have very good family tree history (back to the 900's) but not the photo info. (My hubby's mother left hundreds of photos with no info written on them and I doubt if hubby knows.)
I sat down at the computer once when my mother was visiting and asked her questions about her childhood. I typed quietly as she answered. Unlike most 95 year-old's, she does not talk about her past very often. She's very much in the present! Maybe that's why she's 95 and still living independently.

Eve, thanks so much for your birthday wishes. To answer your question about Samburu, no, we did not stay near the river. As we drove into that area on our way to our hotel our guide told us that the place we were supposed to stay, the Samburu Serena near the banks of the Ewaso Nyiro, was completely washed out during the floods there a couple years ago. The river rose so quickly that the hotel guests & staff had to be airlifted out by helicopter!! That hotel has still not been rebuilt so we stayed at the Samburu Sopa Lodge instead. We found all the Serena & Sopa hotels we stayed at in both Kenya & Tanzania very satisfactory, & we were also very happy with our Adventures Abroad tour group. It was a GREAT trip.

Eve, I was away from home all day yesterday & today & did not read your sad news about Tipper until tonight. I am so so sorry for your loss & for the very hard decision that you had to make to let her go. Even on this website it was so obvious to all how very much you loved her & what a great friend & companion she was to you. Now you have also shown beyond a doubt what a great friend you were to HER by helping her to die peacefully & cross over to a better life on the other side of the Rainbow Bridge. May she rest in peace, & may your memories of happier days together help to console you. XO

Hello Eve - I just read your comment on easy about where to go for a holiday. Naturally, you can't beat Australia for it's diversity and absolutely wonderful scenery.
Norway is also exceptionally beautiful. I went about this time of year and it was still quite cool and we didn't see much sun, but it was still a lovely place to visit. A wee bit expensive when I was there.
New Zealand is also a great place to visit with lovely scenery and the culture is great. Also the hot pools in Rotarura (not sure I spelt that right).
Of course, Europe and Rome is all about history and wonderful old buildings. I particularly loved Venice and Florence. The Vatican was naturally worth visiting, as was most well known places in Rome.
Good luck with your choosing as I'm sure you will select the right place.
Cheers,
Anne

Eve, we were pretty much at the highest level, looking down. You can just see a corner of a terrace in the lower left of the photo. The climb up was worth it, just for this view!
