Hi Angie,
Thanks for stopping in the other day. I look in from time to time here on Sudoku Chat but you are never there any more. It seems the harem has been relocated.

All is well here in New Mexico. We are getting good rain lately and that is good. Glad to hear that the hats are getting good use. Would hate to see them gather dust now in a back room. Seems it was worth the effort for all concerned

Hi Angie! Thanks for welcoming Rob & me home. I loved the little tennis couple Smilie. Would you mind if I borrowed it? It's been a long time since I've visited your page - wow, you've got it all glittered up! It looks beautiful as do all your new pictures in your photo gallery. It was so nice to see your husband, some of the Sudoku gang, & your other daughters, too, in addition to seeing the huge variety of Emily's very special dance costumes. Hope all of you are well. By the way I keep meaning to ask - what kind of work do you do? Sorry you had a bad day last Monday! (I'm just now catching up on the days I was gone.) Hope you have a good week this week.

Hi Angie, yes, thanks, all is well here, and I hope it's the same with you. Perhaps we could start another fascinating exchange about toilet seats...or people could demonstrate their ability to post 10 or 15...or 20 times in a row. All the best to you and your father,

Ian.

a few suggestions for you daughter's travel project: a replica of the Parthenon in Nashville, Tennessee; petrified coral called Petosky stones found only in Petosky, Michigan (who would think coral in fresh water Lake Michigan?) it's pretty cool stuff. i'll send along more as i think of them. i was trying to think of the unusual stuff that wouldn't necesarily be included in the 'normal' tour of an area, that everyone would see when visiting. there's so much to include about Chicago that a whole project could be devoted to it alone.

Hi Angie - I see you are getting a lot of great suggestions for your daughters school project. Well here is a local one from me. It is Sugar Loaf, here a link with some history on it.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sugar_Loaf,_Winona,_Minnesota
The photo on my page that has the view of the Mississippi River is taken from the top of Sugar Loaf. I also believe it is the on 'Mountain' in Minnesota, but I will double check on that information if she would be interested. I can get you photos of it. It is lit up at night and it looks like there is a cross on it.

Let me know if you would like more photos or info on it. Guess you could say it is one of the not so famous attractions in the mid-west.

Angie, there is a huge meteor crater near
Winslow, Arizona, for the natural features. I could post pics on Flickr if you are interested. I also have photos of Dinosaur National Monument, Fantasy Canyon, and the Coral Pink Sand Dunes in Utah. Let me know if you want me to post those photos for consideration.

Angie, natural, and probably obscure, but large and impressive, I suggest Stone Mountain GA. Photos on my gallery, permission to copy given. Google Stone Mountain GEORGIA, there is another of same name in NC.

Interesting facts, the carvings on the mountain (man made, huum, it could fit under either? both?) are larger than those on Mount Rushmore, and the same artist worked on both of them. Just east of Atlanta, this 3,200-acre park centers on the world's largest exposed granite mountain. It is well-known not only for its geology, but also for the enormous bas-relief on its north face, the largest bas-relief in the world.

Angie, Urbana, OH has Cedar Bog which has uncommon flora and fauna, ie. tundra swamp birch, prairie dock, swamp rattlesnake, spotted turle and more than 100 species of birds, Much of the plant life in the preserve dates to the last ice age.
We also have earthworks built by native American Indians and caves.
In Wilmot, OH is Alpine-Alpa which displays what is believed to be the world's largest cuckoo clock, standing more than 23 ft. tall. The clock features hand-carved wooden band members and dancers that perform every 30 min.
Cleveland hosts the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
If any of these appeal to your daughter, let me know and I will try and provide you with links.

Hi Angie: I'm not sure what your daughter wants to concentrate on, but obviously she must traverese the world. A few suggestion that others in her class may not consider:

- the Rideau Canal running from Ottawa to Lake Ontario, the longest man-made canal in the world. Recently named a world heritage site and also known as the longest skating rink in the world (photo of skating on my page). Many other features in Ottawa, Canada's capital she could add in if she wanted to, such as our Parliament, Museum of Civilization, etc. Lots of pictures available on the Internet, but some on my page and Ian's (Sydney) page as well.
= in terms of natural wonder and progress, the state of Kerala in southern India. Highest literacy rate in India (something like 95%) with no major industry. A fishing and farming state, with similar topology to Vietnam. Some photos availablr on my page of fishing nets, etc.

- the Rockie mountains in North America, spanning both the US and Canada. Tons of pictures available, both on my page and others.

- Moncha Pichua (sp?) in Peru, a truly magnificent ancient civilization/world. Anne (Albany) has tons of pictures from her visit last year.

Anyway, good luck and have fun. Boring with your daughter having to limit herself to five locaations only. Guess it must be a limited world-travel budget!

Hi Angie - haven't travelled much but I thought about the Terracotta Warriors in China (interesting history and only partly uncovered). The other thought was the giant horse relief in England that is on a hillside - not sure where. I think near the south of England and the white cliffs of Dover.
Also the giant stone heads/monoliths on Easter Island plus it's natual history/animals etc.
In Oz there is Fraser Island - the largest sand island in the world. We also have our own giant craters - isn't it the 'Wolf Creek' (from the movie) national park.
What about the north west coast which has those enormous tides that can drop 30 meters/feet.
Good luck with all the ideas.

Hey Ange - was thinking what if your daughter picked a theme? i.e. the best location to view sunsets in the world, the best places to view whales/swim with dolphins, the best treks (nepal/machu pichu), the most famous statues in the world (David, Liberty etc), the best beaches, the best surf...the list is endless, but it gives a different spin...x

Hi Angie; Gath answered my e-mail about the image processing. His answer: 'There may be a conflict with the graphics library on your oomputer and the one used by the appliation. If you download the latest driver for your graphics card and make sure you have the latest version on direct X, that 'may' help you.' I have heard from several people that have tried to use the program and they can't get it beyond initializing. I don't know if ths helps you or not, it didn't do a thing for my computer illiterate brain!
