Mo, I'm loving reading the ongoing saga of this much wanted house and it's emergence from the cocoon.
I rejoice along with you both every time you post about some extra thing that has been connected etc.
May you both have a long and enjoyable time with the house that Steve and Mo built!

GannieMo, ever hear of Douglas Adams? He wrote "The Hitchhikers' Guide to the Galaxy" and "The Restaurant at the End of the Universe" Anyways, pens become alive and try to make it to the planet of Biro where they live normal Biro lives, get married and have children! It's in one of those books.

I thought the can opener verse you posted was really great Mo. You have quite an imagination my friend! Sammi must be upset if he never hears your can opener going! (wink)

Thank you Mo for your kind words of comfort. My Dad was ready to go as he hated knowing that he was losing his memory and felt that he was a burden to us all, at least now he is at peace.

Mo, thank you so much for your kind words when Mum passed, and for sharing with me about your mother and MIL.
You are so right, it is the fun times and memories that are getting me through this. It is strange though how even the best thought can bring a tear to the eye. Some days are easier that others.
She will live in our hearts forever.

GannieMo, thank you for the birthday wishes. As for those 3 glasses of wine, it will be my pleasure to drink your share too, since it's your teetotalling month. I think my car will be steering like the one in your sign!

GannieMo - were those your photos on the hard puzzles today and yesterday? Is that the view from your farmhouse? Just curious - that photo in particular really captivated me, but I wasn't sure if that was one of yours. If so, it really is an exquisite, delicate scene - I hate it that when I submitted my comment, the puzzle went to pieces - I'll have to do it again (and it wasn't easy) to revel in the coloring one more time, that early morning misty feeling.

Mo, please be alright!
Fiona told us about the terrible storm your region has experienced. I can not even imagine...
As soon as you can, please let us know, we are all family, and we worry about each other.
Thinking of you.

Dear Mo,

It is so good to have you back (at least part-time)! As you know by now, we were all worried about you. I hope your power is restored quickly as I know what it's like to be without. When Hurricane Isabel pummeled Richmond (Virginia) in 2003, we lost 6 giant oaks, and our power was out for almost two weeks. Fortunately, it was still warm out, so cold showers weren't entirely unwelcome. Stay safe. Stay warm. Stay in touch!!! ♥ Jane

regarding flooring--not carpeting, not tile. Keep it as smooth as possible and add rugs where necessary that can be taken up and cleaned. Oh, and choose neutral color flooring that blends with the color of whatever dirt or soil tends to accumulate on your floors. Well-sealed wood or sheet vinyl flooring (if smooth) is best.

Your 10-year old daughter's blog is amazing.
A definite Gannie-Mo influence there. Maybe I shall think of retiring soon !!!
Maybe in finding a niche I have triggered a poetry revival. Maybe the main advantage of poems with rhythm and rhyme is that while writing them you have to stop and think more deeply

Ruthless People. That's the movie title I was trying to remember that has Bette Midler and Danny Devito. Also Judge Reinhold and Helen Slater. Always thought that script could translate well to a stage play.

Hi
We have a large rose garden with over 100 named varieties. There are number of different factors you need to consider. Fragrance, size and vase life. The French Delbard roses are lovely and generally tick all of the above three boxes. David Austin Roses (English)tend not to have a long vase life but generally are very fragrant. White roses tend not to be very fragrant Most purple/mauve are very fragrant. Many ordinary roses are available as climbers or pillar roses.
(very tall upright). Some of the best we have are Red Intuition, Chartreuse de Parme, Chandon Rosier, Guy Savoy (all Delbards). Teasing Georgia, Troillus, Compte de Champagne, Jubilee Celebration (David Austins) Lamarque, Old Fragrance, Perfume Perfection, Happy Child, Hot Chocolate and Full Sail which is the most perfumed white rose available.
Good rose hunting.

With regard to Rolanda's post, we have a Peace Climber (pink and lemon flower) which is very prolific and Mr Lincoln (red) and Double Delight (white and red)and Just Joey (orangey). Our Double Delight and Just Joey haven't been very vigorous although in an area where other roses are growing well (up to about 2.5 metres tall). Don't have a Helmut Schmidt.
After a number of years of experience we have come to the conclusion that you can buy strong and weak plants of the same variety. If you get one that doesn't perform, rip it out and start again. We also prefer to buy potted roses that are in flower later in the season. These are dearer than early season bare root roses but you can see how vigoursly they are growing and this gives you a better idea of how they will perform in the garden. You also get to see what colour the blooms actually are. The same variety can vary quite considerably from plant to plant and even on the same plant depending on where they are planted. They rarely look like the tag attached to the plant.

GannieMo, try a "Fragrant Cloud" it's a coral red rose and a strong fragrance. My favorite! But my next rose will be the English Evelyn rose!

We have both Fragrant Cloud and Evelyn (apricot colour which fades to a yellowy/pink as it opens and is a David Austin rose) Both are very fragrant with Evelyn being taller and more profusely flowering. Although it's an Australian website www.treloarroses.com.au has very good pictures and brief descriptions of most roses (except Delbards)

GannieMo,
I love roses also! In Kansas it can be quite a challenge when winters are bitterly cold and dry and summers hot and windy. We have almost 400 rosebushes on our property. I also collect daylilies, hostas and iris. I would like to see photos of your place in France.

GannieMo, thanks for the birthday smilies! But what's that devil doing there? - whatever you've heard, it's a lie! ;)
Your rose garden will be so beautiful! I'm watching my garden withering, as water is in such short supply - we're hoping autumn will bring some decent rains. My roses look a bit sick at the moment - need to cut them back hard.
Have a great day! :)

Just read your comments on yesterdays pages about leg cramps. Apparently, only the coach I had in high school and me know this information, since whenever I mention people think I have lost my mind. But it works, I have used this method since high school and works great now during pregnancy with my feet.
When the cramp occurs, pinch, lightly you do not have hurt yourself, the area under your nose and above your upper lip. There is a name for that area but I can never think of it. Maybe 10 seconds. The cramp should subside.
As a prevention, before resting rub legs with Vit. E. I have used lotions and the vitamins, just pop the gel capsules. Not only good for the cramps, but good for the skin. The gel caps are sticky though.
Hope this helps because that is a horrible way to wake up in the middle of the night.

Hi, Mo!

Have been too busy to post since the weekend, but I saw your comment about legs cramps and want to give you a tip. You will not believe this, but it works for me and for Jaime. This remedy for leg cramps appeared in the newspaper in a column a couple of years ago, we tried it, and it worked.

Place an unwrapped bar of soap beneath the bottom sheet at the bottom of the bed, next to your legs/feet. That's it! Go ahead and laugh, but try it! (When I have them, I use the small soap bars that you get from hotels. Otherwise, I use a regular size bar.)

BTW, I always did the banana thing for leg cramps.
My son used to get them also. Worked for both of us.

GMo, I'm sending you a warm hug and my prayers for Houpette. I know the heartache when our beloved friends are sick; they love us unconditionally and we want to give them so much in return. So difficult to see them try to bear up stoically. I hope all goes well and you are in my thoughts.

Gmo, I know how you feel. Kelshie suddenly became paralysed in her back legs about 6 weeks ago at 9.30 p m. Pete & I were horrified. We didn't sleep at all that night. At 7.20, Pete got up. I said, 3you're not going to work, surely - you are coming to the vet, with me?!" He assured me that he would be back straight away. I went to the loo, and when I went back to bed, Kelshie was there on all fours, tail wagging, grinning face... We went to the vet, where she was given an injection for her arthritis and pills to take ad infinitum. She's fine, today.. Just hope Houpette goes the same way How old is he? Kelshie is 12 1/2. Please keep in touch.
