Maurene, I am glad your son got to visit. It seems this is a rare occasion? Just a guess cause of how glad to see him and how sad he is leaving. I really do not know geography of Australia well, and to busy this morning to find a map and see how long a trip that would be for him.

did you get photos of the Babtism? Might you share on your page?

maurene said . . . . "Sydney is about 400 klms south-east from Dubbo. It takes one hour to fly here from Sydney and about five or six hours to drive."

Ahh, that is a long drive then, 248 miles, I hope your son was flying for his visit. Do you know, are air fares comparable with fares in the USA or are they less expensive? I know many of my cyber friends in Oz fly between cities much more frequently than most of us do here.

Seems a bit slower than we could cover 248 interstate miles, what are road conditions between cities?

Hi Maureen, thank you for your birthday greetings of a couple of days ago. Sorry I haven't acknowledged it earlier but I have been flat out for the past couple of days and I am just now starting to catch up.
I'm sorry to hear that you have been unwell. Plenty of rest and TLC - if it doesn't cure you it will at least make you feel better. Love from us both.

Hi there Maureen, Thanks for the welcome back. It's late and I've just put a friend on one of the red eye flights back down south. I checked the jigsaw online puzzle for yesterday and sure enough - that photo of the child on the Tiwi beach was one of mine. Thanks for letting me know. I rarely go to the jigsaw site. I uploaded that for suduko. Hope you are well.

Hi Maureen, how's it going? When do your billets arrive. Aunty M says you & Mum have been cooking up a storm! I've had that Labyrinthitis again, so have been moving very slowly & trying to keep my head level. Had to stay out of bed though the dizzyness etc was worse when I had to get up from lying down! So I've been sitting at the computer & have managed to do the sudoku & jigsaws, by holding my head very still!!

Hi Maureen,
Thanks for the welcome. So many people have welcomed me it has taken forever to drop you all a note!
Surrey is a lovely county - though they are trying to fill it up with housing. I live in Ashtead, near Epsom. What area did you live in?
Thanks once again, its great to talk to you all.

Thanks for dropping in Maureen. I am too old for netball too (42) but it doesn't stop me. I guess my knees will eventually tell me to stop. Sweeping the snow off the court would have stopped me yesterday though.

Hi Maureen, just noticed you were here! Have just been speaking to Dad. I didn't go "Up-the-River" with P because I wanted to see Dad but I can't do that either - wasn't well yesterday so didn't go in & I'm not quite well enough to go in today. Wouldn't want him to catch anything anyway! I'll try & get there tomorrow!

Hi Maureen, I have just cottoned on to the fact that your Dad has been unwell and has had a pacemaker fitted. I must apologise for not having offered our best wishes earlier but I have been somewhat pre-occupied with my own ticker problems. Thankfully my operation on Tuesday seems to have been a complete success and I keep going from strength to strength. As I said to Kate - ain't modern medicine wonderful?
Anne joins me in sending our love to you.

Hi Maureen, I'm sorry I failed to let you in on the secret but I was just too weary before the operation to answer any but the more urgent queries.
I put something on the 'Easy' page on 4th September and to save you having to dredge through the archives, here's what I had to say
"Thank you all for your kind words of encouragement. Perhaps I should explain a little more (Oh No, I hear some say).
Heart rhythms are triggered by impulses from the heart muscles. But this can be controlled by eliminating those muscles that trigger spurious impulses. They are simply zapped by an electric current and the resulting scar tissue stops them in their tracks.
My problem has been a pesky little misbehaving muscle that caused my pulse to race along at 100 when it should have been around 60. As a result, my ticker was working inefficiently so I became tired and breathless with swollen ankles and the other signs of a misbehaving heart.
The operation on Tuesday was to identify the offending muscle and zap it into submission. I am happy to say that the cardiologist confidently announced that he had succeeded and I shouldn't have any more trouble.
My problem now is that a ticker, which has been used to banging away at 100, now has to learn how to do things efficiently at 60. It will take about three weeks to get things back to normal. So the programme is to rest when I need to and exercise when I can and hope I don't walk in front of a bus while crossing the road.
Thank you for your concern, I am on the way to recovery, but please don't expect any scintillating replies for a little while."

I had to wait for three months before the operation could be performed, during which time I went steadily downhill. Anne had to put up with a lot - but she was marvellous support. Clearly, the operation was high-tech and complex because it took 4 - 5 hours, was done under anaesthetic in what they called 'A Laboratory'. It involved mapping the heart in some detail until they could see the cause of the problem. The rest, I am told, was easy.
I spent overnight in Westmead Public, was discharged at 10.00 am and it took me then 4 hours to escape from the hospital.
I am making good progress and Anne is delighted. I find myself singing during the day, cheerful and walking without a walking stick. Things are really looking up.
Would you like me to send this off to Kate also?
With love from both of us.

Thank you for explaining about your op. It sounds quite formidable. It is amazing what Doctors can do now to fix hearts etc. My daughter has a heart condition called "Wolff Parkinson-White Syndrome", which is an abnormality of the electrical pathways in the heart. She has episodes of tachycardia, dizziness, chest palapialions and sometimes fainting. She had a procedure at the London Heart Hospital late last year and will have to have check ups soon in Sydney now that she is back in Australia. My dad is going well after his Pacemaker op and is back at home here in Dubbo. Get well soon so that you can go on more treks in your mobile home.

Maureen, what a coincidence. Your daughter's symptoms are the same as mine were and the operation I had was described as 'Radiofrequency Ablation' - similar to the treatment for WPW. Please tell her that I know how she feels.
