Back at Christmas time I posted the news that grandson Chase was going to become a big brother in July. I am happy to announce that his baby sister Maddox Ann Martin was born at 6:09 P.M. on July 27, 2015. She weighed 9 pounds and measured 21 1/4 inches long. We are thrilled to have a third granddaughter (the others are 19 and 16!) and six grandsons and feel very blessed.

Hello Kathy, and please add my very best wishes on your special day to those accumulated!!! Whoever thought over 3 years ago, when you were one of the first people I chatted to, that we would still be communicating on this amazing site now! I will leave you a virtually endless bottle of bubbles to share with your many guests. Enjoy!!

I hope you are having the time of your life.
I haven't been on the site much over the last week while Rena from Canada was staying here, so I have missed seeing any holiday updates from you. Bet you are both having a blast.

Thanks for inquiring about my ulcer...much better. I only get a flare up every 5 years or so and this one was pretty brief, thank goodness.
So glad your trip was wonderful.
And I'm so grateful you came through "the city" so we could all meet.

Kathy - what a fabulous picture! This would make a wonderful C card!
I'm assuming that tiger is quite well fed to be so content not to eat you two...but it seems so odd that all those tigers are just lying there. Are they sedated? The fella you are posing with is just gorgeous!

Well, I guess I know where an up coming trip will have to be!! Boy! Would I love to see those tigers!
I think I'd go just to Thailand to see them! It sounds as though OAT took care of you through some rather 'unusual' circumstances!
We are taking their "Route of the Maya" tour at the end of January, plus the pre-trip to Panama. Goodbye cold, hello heat!

Kathy, I am glad you had a great trip and a great birthday. Sorry you had to extend the extra days, travel is fun but can be annoying. The birthday boy was 12 yesterday and still has 13 months until his Bar Mitzvah. He decided he does not want a big party, he would rather go to Israel. We are going to have a simple luncheon after services and hopefully go to Israel in 2012. That will be in the middle of both my boys big day and this way we can celebrate both at one time.

Hi Kathy, I can't think of anything better than spending my birthday watching the sun rise over Angkor Wat - except perhaps watching the sun set in the same place, as I did many years ago. Cambodia is a favourite of mine, running a close 2nd to Vietnam where I have been many, many times. I'm so glad you both had a great time and I look forward to seeing more of your photos. That tiger photo is so special, I hope it gets to hang on your wall!

Hi Kathy, I am now really looking forward to visiting Tikal. Thanks for the information. Yes, my husband is definitely a history buff! I don't know what he would do without the History Channel. We have been to Mexico several times. I am fascinated by the Mayan and Aztec cultures.
I love your pictures of the SF gathering. How I wish I could have been there! Maybe the next one.

Hi, Kathy!
I've only peeked at the 1st couple of pages of your Flickr site, but you and Rob take wonderful photos!
I like to take sunrise and sunset photos (more of the latter, even tho I'm an early riser--just not THAT early!). The pink sunrise photo of Rob's is just gorgeous...

Hi Kathy, I have been all over Vietnam but my favourite place is Hanoi. My ex husband was/is involved with trying to prevent Dengue Fever, my children have been many times too. My daughter and her then boyfriend stopped in Hanoi for a few months while backpacking the world. They house sat for an American family who had returned home for a while so the kids looked after their beagle and the house. They also worked at an orphanage and taught english to Uni students. I am heading to New York in Feb. for 2 weeks and then on to Dubai to visit my daughter and s-i-l.

Oh Kathy, your trip sounds wonderful, and a birthday celebration in the midst of it all had to have been a peak experience. Your photo is a dream of mine, to be that close to a majestic feline and be able to touch and pet one. How is it that they were so docile? (I hope there's not some awful story there ...) I'm sure you're now getting last minute things ready for Christmas, so I hope the holiday festivities are still leaving you enough time to relax and enjoy the best of the season. We're well at this end, playing catch-up on the social life we'd missed during the 7 months of kitchen hell; so nice to have friends in for food and drinks. Hubby's got plenty of days off coming to him, so it's nice to see him able to wind down from what's been a crazy time at work. (Still need to post my renovation pics--not adept at doing that; there must be an easier way than how I'm going about it!) Anyway, I'm here to look through your photos, but more especially to wish you, Rob, and all those you love a very Merry Christmas and all the best in the coming year!

Hi Kathy,
I am west of Martinsburg, in the Eastern Panhandle - but have managed to be rather isolated on my 30 acres, although development is creeping out here. Curiously, I was born in Greenbrier County, near White Sulphur Springs, but raised in Arlington, VA.
Sandy is approaching 14, and is very much an old lady. I chuckle sometimes at the two of us strolling around the wooded circle in front of the house, like two old friends! As she is a big doggy, that puts her close to being circa 100 years old - she has survived liver damage for many years now (she escaped her pen when she was young, agile and foolhardy, and got poisoned by some unidentified substance and was never expected to live very long based on her liver test results in her bloodwork), and now is dealing with arthritis. But she eats well (I cook for her as several years ago she quit eating - now my friends tell me they wish they were my dog, as she shares the meat portion of my meals, chopped into her prescription dry food), has her moments of gaiety, attempting to bounce around and be silly when she wants something, and will try to sneak off to chase a deer if she spots one. My three rescue kitties all love her, but she feels rather indifferent to their caresses (I think being stropped in the face by their fuzzy backs rather annoys her). So we are a happy little mountain family in WV! I'm glad I'm retired so I can spend time with these guys - all rescued animals, Sammie and Smokey were quite wild when I got them and took much taming - Smokey still has her hysterical moments after all these years of being a spoiled kitty, fleeing when guests appear.
Where is Valrico? My brother is in Punta Gorda, and i visit him occasionally, but I am too attached to the seasons and trees here to think of leaving anytime soon! I also am not at all fond of hurricanes! My husband had grown up in Florida, so we often visited his family there during his life. Visiting? Great! Living there - not sure.
Are you going to have a gallery and put the rest of your trip photos on it? I enjoyed seeing you with that beautiful tiger - what a gift to have done that! And the video did bring tears to my eyes, that was quite a touching moment.
