I'm an old "member" back from before there were members. I joined as an official member because I was compelled to point out that people who saw a ledge without a barrier were confused by a reflection that was evidently an optical illusion.

Overcast morning with flood warning still in effect until later this morning -- Great news is that the Cubs had a no hitter last night -- our Chicago baseball teams are on the right path now -- Enjoy your time on the board, Mary

I used to live in Ellicott City, MD. I always enjoyed the DC motto "Taxation without Representation". I have a bunch of DC photos in my photo gallery. Welcome back!

Sarah, ignore Ian immediately! "Ian" is olde english for "curmudgeon" I suspect.

Congratulations on being the one to first realize how brilliant it would be to put "Taxation without Representation" on the District's car plates. Political genius.

A constitutional amendment must directly address this travesty of justice that citizens of the USA's Capitol can't cast a true ballot for true representation.
Earlier this year, I wrote the following letter to the Palm Beach Post (which they did not print, though they have printed at least 10 other letters I have sent them) which presents a compromise amendment. It is the fastest way to forever enfranchise the people of the District:

Dear Palm Beach Post:
I sympathize with the citizens of our nation's capitol, who in fact suffer "taxation without representation," as their auto tags remind us. However, the current Congressional bill to allow the District of Columbia's Representative a vote in the House of Representatives is obviously unconstitutional. Article I, Section 2 of the Constitution, clearly states that members of the House should be chosen "by the people of the several states."

DC is not a state. It is not going to be made a state.

No matter what the Congress does, no matter what President does, the Constitution is the highest law of the land, and the arbiter of what is and what is not constitutional is the Supreme Court. And I cannot see the Supreme Court making a ruling that ignores the direct wording of the Constitution. If it does, then any of its wording can be ignored, and the document is worthless.

The answer to this is a Constitutional amendment which clearly states:

"The people of the District of Columbia shall be represented in the House of Representatives in accordance with its population, as recorded by the census. The minimum number shall be one representative."

Sarah - we may be wired rather the same. I, too, have come up with catchy slogans. I also brainstorm ideas and answers to problems. I seem to "see things that aren't" rather as if it's obvious to me what's missing. I tend to have ideas for products or trends and then finally see those things later appear. I'm trying to figure out how to turn this skill into money, but I haven't yet so we're still struggling financially. lol

Imagine you knowing about chocolate cheese! I almost posted that there exists such a thing, but I didn't think anyone would believe me. You knowing about it makes the whole concept credible. And you're right. It misses the mark as both a cheese and a chocolate.
