Hi Fiona... loved the oxymoron puzzle you posted! Solved it too.
Feel free to toss more out our way. Enjoy your trip...just curious... I see you're from France. Do you speak English or is everything translated. I had assume it was translated but realize that the oxymorons wouldn't translate very well. I used to be fluent in French but have lost it along the way. i'll leave some brownies for you to enjoy wth a glass of

Hello Fiona from France... I hope my solution to your "Witch's Goldmine" puzzle will keep me from being turned to stone. In opening, you about had me stumped, then after some random, disjointed thought, I came up with this solution.
Garry filled the first bag with 11 pounds of gold. He filled the second bag with 3 pounds of gold. He filled the third bag with 2 pounds of gold. Then, he placed the bag containing 2 pounds of gold inside the bag that already had 3 pounds of gold inside. Finally, he placed these bags inside the bag that already had 11 pound of gold inside.
Each bag told the witch the truth, and Garry withheld his 10%. The witch turns to stone, and I can only assume Garry did this so he could claim the mine as his own! Ultimately, I suppose Garry wasn't so honest after all!!!

Regarding your question about seeing a Pope, yes I did almost 20 or so years ago when Pope Juan Pablo II came to Colombia. I saw him in his glass protected car at a 20 Km/hr. speed.
Have a nice weekend.

Fiona, I was going to comment on the Pope question, but my pooter died and by the time I got back on, you had gone for the day. I saw JPII here in Denver at World Youth Day/Week...along with 50,000 to 100,000 of my closest friends. It still ranks as one of the outstanding moments of my life.

Hi Fiona, I too have seen a pope, Pope Paul VI. It was at the pope's summer palace in August, 1969. As he was carried past where I was standing with my family I managed to touch his hand. My husband and eldest child also saw Pope John Paul II in Canberra sometime in the 1980's.
I am sorry I missed your question yesterday. I only read your comment on today's easy page.

Hi Fiona. You must help me. Now that I know we have a descendant of French royalty among us, I must know how to address her properly. How do you say Queen Suzy in French? hehe

Fiona, love the photo to greet us to your page! Thanks for the info on Ebay; right now I'm eyeing a tole tray that's had no bids yet; bidding to start at $10.00, with shipping costs being about the same. I think they'll entertain bids for 6 days. The (very) few trays I've seen around here at antique shops are priced in the hundreds of dollars and they're not the right colour, so I figure if I can pay a fraction of this and get something closer to what I want, I'm ahead of the game. So I assume I keep checking the site and watch the action? I guess I'm concerned about the finance aspects of it in terms of paying without getting ripped off somehow, plus buying something and hoping that the close-up photographs don't lie!

Fiona - If the riddle is current (2008) then the twins were born on Sat 31 July and Sun 1 Aug 1983 or 1988 making them 25 or 20. If the riddle is from 2007 then they were born on Sat 31 July and Sun 1 August 1983, making them 24 years old.

Sam is born in January, April, or August.
Oliver is born in May or July.
Sam is younger, so Sam was born in August, and Oliver was born in July.
So it is trivial to look back to the year in which July 31 fell on a Saturday 20-29 years ago.

John was telling the truth,
Tessa had to have been lying.
Callahan had looked out his own window at home and had not been able to see anything through the foggy void. Being only a block away, the conditions would have been the same at Ms. Omar's home. Tessa would not have been able to see into a poorly lit room through 60 feet of frozen fog, making her story impossible.

Fi - You would leave home with two cakes. At each bridge you give the troll half of what you have which is one cake. The troll gives you one back so you then have two for the next bridge and subsequently you would arrive at Grandmas with two cakes.

I just have a hard time sitting here trying to figure out such a simple deduction ... you would think my many years in the detective bureau would have helped with puzzles like that.

Checked out your latest photos and I was really surprised to see you had a fling with George and then bragged about it!
You might want to try some non-math riddles to bring people back. Cheers!

HI Fiona
Another Math puzzle. The only sort I can do. I'm not into logic.
Solution. Wait until the first clock chimes after dinner. Presumably that will be 7pm. Count the number of drips until the next clock chime at 8pm. Divide the number of drips by four and start counting again when the clock chimes next at 9pm. When you have counted the calculated quarter it should be 9.15pm.

The ages are ship 18 and boiler 12. When the ship was the same age as the boiler is now (12) the boiler would have been 6 which is half the age that the ship would have been then. I won't go thru the algebra I used to work it out.
