I will put it back up one day but unfortunately, I will lose all those wonderful comments. I just cannot bring myself to do it!

Glad you had a wongerful day. Did you know, we are the same age...well really, I am a couple of months older than you but that doesn't count as much as it did when we were younger, does it?!

Wantage is a town in the Vale of the White Horse, in the Thames Valley, in the county of Oxfordshire, approximately 18 miles south - south west of Oxford and 70-ish miles west of London. It is famous for being the birthplace of King Alfred the Great in about 849* and we have a statue of him in our market place.

*and not much else since!

Hi Fiona,
Don't know where to post the answer to your riddle but: Is it that they all have two pairs of double letters. (assess, banana, uneven, voodoo) I don't remember the rest of the words.

Today's puzzle - put the first letter to the end of each word and read it from the back forward and it becomes the same front and back..

Love your latest photos in Tunisia....vicarious armchair traveler that I am
No..I didn't try your birthday riddle [suspected it would take a while]...I'm saving it for one day when I have a little more time to fritter away...those sort of puzzles suck me right in and I end up like a dog with a bone....won't let it be until I have the answer.

Hi Fi

They all have six letters?

This has probably already been solved but I have just logged on, and I think it's the first one I can answer

Cheers

today's answer:

THIS PAPERBACK IS VERY INTERESTING, BUT I FIND IT WILL NEVER REPLACE A HARDCOVER BOOK - IT MAKES A VERY POOR DOORSTOP.

I COULDN'T REMEMBER WHEN I HAD BEEN SO DISAPPOINTED. EXCEPT PERHAPS THE TIME I FOUND OUT THAT M&MS REALLY DO MELT IN YOUR HAND...

I AM TWO WITH NATURE.

Tricky using a new code and omitting the apostrophe in you're. It added to the fun.

Hey, when you get out of birthday mode, answer this riddle for me: Are you a native French speaker or did you move to France from an English-speaking country? Your English is excellent.

And where in France (generally speaking) do you live?

I once coordinated a month's stay in the midwestern US for 50 French foreign exchange students.

oh, mon dieu.

Never again. (Would that be "plus jamais"? It's been so long. I don't think it's "jamais encore." I've forgotten more French than I think I ever learned!)

Hi Fiona! Please be on the lookout for an e-mail from me about an e-card I sent for your birthday. Blue Mountain notified me that the card was never picked up. The e-mail will explain. Hope all is well with you & your family. Will the Tour de France pass near your town again?
