Oh my gosh!!!! I had about 22 messages in my inbox today just from Sudoku friends wishing me a 'Happy Birthday'! Thank you so much for all of your kind thoughts and wishes especially when I haven't been around for so long. It has been a wonderful day and a lovely weekend. Rick and I went away to a romantic chalet at Springbrook with an open fireplace and we went bushwalking etc. I have uploaded a photo of Kiarah and some others onto 'my page'. Photos taken 26th May 2008. Kiarah is just about 18 months old now and still gorgeous hahaha....

Kathy for adding so mightily to my birthday enjoymet...Your use of the smilies over the two day period was very creative and so nice to be on the receiving end. After so many birthdays some think they are no longer fun,....they just don't know folks like you who know how to put the 'f'in fun!

Kathy,
I loved your crab soup. Takes me back to the family reunions in Overlea (Baltimore area) where we cracked and picked at steamed crabs caked with McCormick Spice Co.'s Old Bay seasoning then washed away the heat with iced tea. I loved going downtown Baltimore and doing the "barn walk." (Do they still shut down traffic all ways for pedestrians there?) Or, we'd get lost in DC, giggle about the middies in Annapolis or go to Ocean City for a day then come back to Michigan with "Maryland is for Crabs" t-shirts.
One great dish deserves another. Enjoy this platter of pierogi filled with farmer's cheese and Plums, lightly crisped in butter then served with a dollup of sour cream.

Kathy ... where are you getting the great Calvin and Hobbs figures. Hope you don't mind if I copy it for my file ???? Please, Please ...
Do you have one with them in the rain??
Soup was delicious ... Maryland is known for Crap cakes as well. We were staying up in Cherry Hill one time and I played golf with a guy at U of M. He turned out to be a lobbyist and asked the 4 of us to his house for Crab Cakes. Now, I am not a Crab kind of guy but these were very good.

Thanks, I went through them and enjoyed every "very slow minute" (I have a slow connection speed). I found a couple things to play with and possibly be able to use.

Hi Kathy, Just saw your msg.

hsyao from Taipei had the misfortune of having someone sign up shortly after he / she did. So they weren't in the "Welcome new member" box for long...

I gather from your msg. that all the "gifts" are Smlies that I load. Correct?

Have a great day and enjoy the weekend....

Hi Kathy, Thanks for the "smilies". I think I'm starting to get the "hang of it." I think I should have "joined" 6 months ago instead of "lurking". Now I should be getting something accomplished, outside, or late spring house cleaning, and here I sit.

When I figure a way to become a supporting member - open a pay pal account, which I have a problem about. I will be able to use private smilies. For now it is the avatar. BTW - it is a pic of the Jacksonville Trolley - that takes people on tours of the town & up to Britt on concert nights.

That little pig mustn't have been fed for a while, he devoured four apples without a break!!! Thanks for visiting. When the photo arrived on my camera the other day I was very pleased that I'd seen a program on the Tiger Temple or I may have been a little bit alarmed!. I also agree my baby's a good looking fellow, but I'm probably biased!

How old is she? Do you have other grandchildren, too? Hope you had a nice weekend. See you (& all your great smilies!!!) on Easy.

Kathy - sorry I didn't return your visit asking about the end of school!! Unfortunately, my summer is almost 40% over?!?! We finished right at the end of May, and I report back August 15. My summer will really be pretty much over after I have my knee replacement surgery on July 16 - then I have to really work on rehab so I will be ready for school.
Thanks for dropping in.

Hi Kathy, thanks for stopping by my place. I've dropped in to try your crab soup (Mmmmmm) and have helped myself to a beer. LOVE the photo of your grandaughter and her horse! What's the horse's name? I spent all day yesterday out at the farm where I ride helping to clean up and exercise some of the "new" horses brought in for summer camp, which starts today.

Hi Kathy, many thanks for your birthday wishes, the cake and balloons were a nice touch. We are having a small celebration this evening with two of our three children here for dinner. Unfortunately the younger one can't attend because he is living and working in Germany.
Thanks heaps.

Kathy,
You are a wealth of information. I don't usually meet people my equal in curiosity and Answers.
I have three more questions, of course. You can just wave your hands up in the air and tell me to go find out by myself if you wish ...
1) Why start the New Year according to the New Moon in late January or February? It's not the darkest night of the year, because the new moon nearest the winter solstice would be that, wouldn't it? Is it astronomical (because of a constellation), or is it maybe agricultural (because it's "midwinter," or perhaps it's cultural, marking an historical event (the way Passover does)?
2) What about the uneven number of lunar cycles in a solar year? I can't see how it could always be 12 lunar cycles in a year and still have the New Year always fall in late Jan/early Feb because sometimes there are 13 lunar months (the ancient Hebrews followed a lunar calendar and they added a 13th month when necessary).
3) How and why do you know so much about the "Chinese New Year" and lunar calendars?

Howdy neighbor!
I'm in Saint Mary's county.
That numbers comment got the tiny wheels in my head spinning and as many people have pointed out they are just slightly out of balance and you saw the result ;-)

Hi Kathy! Thank you for posting that beautiful YouTube. I must admit that I rarely take the time to listen to music on YouTubes, but I was in the mood for some classical after reading about Sully's death. We got home from Michigan last night, & I found a couple e-mails telling me the news. I STILL feel sad today. I just can't quit thinking about what Mamacita & her family are going through after such a sudden loss. The last time Rob's family got together was for his Mom's funeral in 2003, so being together this time just to have fun was so nice. Guess we all have to accept the bad times along with the good. That's how life is. Hope you & your family are well.
