Hi Sue, glad you liked the piccy's. The Loire Valley is a most beautiful place, it is quiet and serene and has the most amazing chateaux. I'm a bit of a 'got to love these old buildings' fanatic and it was quite wonderful to see such history. I'd go there again in a thrice. I've been to other parts of France but have to say it was one of the nicest areas. I adore Spain, have a little place there for retreat and R&R. And I have been visiting there for years. My french is nothing short of school days stuff on the whole but my Spanish is much improved and I can get a long reasonably well now. Although a few years ago whilst taking a drive looking for a 'perfect' inland place to eat. I stopped with my children and went into what I thought was an eating establishment, no menu's, they didn't speak English so I blagged my way through and we were duly served some food. Beautiful. I went to pay and was greeted with laughter and shaking of heads. They wouldn't accept my money. I found out some time later when speaking to a friend of mine who is Spanish that in fact we had gone to the local 'psiquiátrico' (mental institute), their country retreat. Never lived it down. I sort of thought after that these are good people.

Sue in answer to your querie on Kitchen Witches....

Some kitchens have a kitchen witch doll, which is said to prevent burnt pots, keep meals hot and flavorful, and to weave the family together. The kitchen witch doll is often placed over the stove, near the kitchen entrance, or sometimes over a seating area in the kitchen.”

for the compliment on my lily, Sue. I'm afraid there won't be many more flowers popping up in my yard until next spring...but I'm going to carry my camera this fall and try my hand at some close-up fall colors. If anything turns out, I'll try and submit them for puzzles.
I had a great time visiting with you yesterday, too. Sounds like you and hubby have had to be patient with health issues this summer. Sometimes it's like that (God's time and all). My husband will be having hand surgery towards the end of September on his dominant hand. He will be about 6 weeks without the use of it. Should be interesting for us!

Haven't I already mentioned that I am psycho... I meant psychic!
I occasionally go back in time and check the archives for the same date last year etc, discover who celebrated what and when.

What beautiful flowers and lovely photos! You have inspired me to take more photos of my garden flowers. Your close ups of the individual flowers are so effective!

And you and your hunk look swell. I like your little kid photo...thank you for sharing!

Hi Sue, Thanks for the kind words.

Please thank "The Chief" for his service. In the true sense of the phrase, I was not a "river rat". I rode “Swift Boats” doing coastal patrol out of Hue, DaNang, and ChuLai. (I never met John Kerry). Another year was spent with a Navy communications team living in the “delta”, in Special Forces camps, and Navy river boat bases.

Hi, Sue! Thank you so much for the birthday wishes and TWO birthday cakes. Thanks, also for participating in the "hottie" silliness. It was fun shaking up some of the more "staid" folks and getting responses from them! On a more serious note, I (like Jerry, above)ask you to thank your hubby for his service to our country. A dear friend of mine (who passed away less than a year ago) was also a Chief in the Navy and served the last few years of his career in JAX. His name was Bill "Ski" Zielinski. By any chance, did you or your husband know him?

Take care, and have a great day, Sue!

Hi Sue ~ Wow, I am envious of your trip! While the cruise was great, the one thing it really lacked was more time on land! This is one of our goals - - to return to Alaska and really take some time enjoying the beauty - - and NOT on somebody else's time schedule! I also feel the same as you do, in the fact that there was not one place in Alaska that I didn't love! In fact, there are a few places that I wouldn't mind living. I guess it was a blessing in disguise that we even got to stop at Sitka, because it was not supposed to be part of our cruise. Our ship was having problems and we were not allowed to go into Glacier Bay, so they docked in Sitka instead. Lovely little Russian settlement! The best little gift stores, too! I bought a little box made of bark - - very decorative and beautiful. Someday we WILL go back. (My Bridge to Nowhere picture was taken while on the White Pass & Yukon Railway trip out of Skagway. I also have some nice pictures of the rain forest in Ketchikan, and some great pictures of Gold Creek and the Mendenhall Glacier in Juneau. I'll have to post more onto my gallery). Thanks for your response to my comment, Sue!

I will be in S.F and will be staying at the Handlery Hotel, in Union Square. Check out the website...it seems to come highly recommended from some who have stayed there before. Linda/Mn will also be staying there and we have a ride to the meeting. I do hope you can make it. I'm sure it'll be fun.

Yes, Sue, I am VERY lucky to be going on two trips in one year! It won't happen again in a LONG time, though! I haven't been anywhere overnight for almost two years since my cat was diagnosed with diabetes... so this was a sanity saver! Cat's doing fine... hubby learned to give injections! Luckily neighbor did too... hubby & I BOTH got to go to Wales.

Hello, Sue - I have enjoyed your puzzles a lot, and tried to view your gallery just now, but my computer thwarts me with question marks for many of the photos, darn it! I'll just keep revisiting to see if some come up next time. But you were something else with your little red wagon - the hand blur tells me your family had trouble keeping you still for photos - right?! Your flower photos are beautiful, and have inspired me to work more on mine. Thank you for the "kick in the backside" to make me take more time with my photography! And thank you for sharing your photos - I certainly have had you in mind with that Georgia O'Keeffe quote I wrote the other day.

Hi Sue,
Your Valdez glacier picture was featured on the 11/20 medium puzzle, what an awesome shot, I am so jealous, on my bucket list (if you haven't seen the movie it is worthwhile) is a trip to Alaska to see icebergs, I have wanted to do so since seeing Titanic, maybe some day I will get there!

Have a great day in your corner of our world!
Aimee :-)

Sue, finally I have DSL and actually viewed all your photos - wish there were more! Just finished doing all of last week's puzzles, and always enjoy your creature pictures, too. Wasn't that "dragon" on the tree limb yours (now I'm operating on memory, always a bad premise) - I thought he was a fine fellow! And the flowers ........ what can I say that we haven't said already!!!!!!
Thank you so much for sharing these images with us - just did the hibiscus, so gorgeous!
