Yes the 1500 post reminded me of our galvanised tin bath. We had a black range stove and every saturday the tub would be placed in front of it. It would then be filled with water from the copper boiler by means of a bucket. We bathed the other way round my sister first, then me, whilst sis was dried and put to bed then brother. After we three were in bed more hot water would be added for mum and then for dad, who I seem to remember mum saying usually fell asleep there. Probably the result of a jar or two.

Shiela... I got hold of my doctor as she was going out the door on her vacation. So, no check-up, unless I go to the hospital.

Oh my gosh, Shiela, all the work you've done ... isn't it a pain? If we got paid for all the times we've cleaned our garage, swept sawdust from our deck and gardens, stained knobs, painted trim, filled nail holes ...
My husband finally took (another) really hard line with our designer, saying she MUST call the cabinet company tomorrow when they reopen and insist that they send our new doors and crown molding ASAP--she was actually trying to tell us, in a blase manner, that nothing might get done until September! My hubby said when I heard that I burst into tears, and that such a wait was unacceptable. We'll see. Meanwhile, she's groaning about wanting to take holidays; during this entire project we've accommodated everyone else's schedule and holidays, and look where it's got us. For nearly six months we haven't had friends over, during a year that's been extremely difficult. So I hope that in mid-August, this will finally be over, but I've learned never to get my hopes up. Keep a proverbial stiff upper lip, Shiela--we'll have beautiful spaces in the end!

Houseguests? You're a brave one, with all that's going on around your place! We now have a level refrigerator, after four separate visits by installers and warranty folk. But our designer finally saw my firm side this morning when she continued to skirt issues about our scratched and stained floor. I basically said that all issues, from floor to damaged cupboards, be completed to our satisfaction by the last week in August and that there was no way we would tolerate this ridiculous project extending into September. She's not too happy with me, and the feeling's mutual! Shame it had to come to this, but we were getting nowhere, and still may have a hideous floor to look at ... (Never buy terra cotta tiles. Who knew?) Have a smooth, relaxing week, Shiela!

So sorry, Shiela, to hear about your uncle. Doesn't it seem when you get to a certain age, the only gatherings of family are for funerals? And to have relatives descend at your place ... even if your poor mom couldn't exactly see the dust, you knew it was there! But your secret is safe with me; I won't tell anyone. And I'm so pleased to be your friend, regardless of what your house looks like!

Hello Shiela, I read your post on 8/14 hard puzzle and just have to ask how your sister went from Michigan to Indonesia, and to be living there for the last 35 years to boot, hope you don't think I am trying to pry, just curious as to how someone would take that path in life. Thanks if you want to share the story.

Take care,
Aimee :-)

Shiela,
Thank you for sharing the information on your sister and her family, how awe inspiring, to be in a postion (or make a position in your sister's case) to make such a profound difference to so many lives every day and in so many ways. Her and her husband toghether will leave a legacy that hopefully will go on for generations. They must both be very remarkable people and brave. God bless them and the people like them that choose to see and foster the good in people world wide. Thanks again for sharing and you should be proud! Display that batik proudly...

Aimee :-)

Thank you for your bithday greeting. The weather isn't cooperating - yesterday was 108°, today, my "medicare" birthday, is suppose to be 105°. Mom called this morning to sing me Happy Birthday. Last year I was in So. Cal. with her for my Birthday. Tonight, I will be working Britt & listening to Midori and the Britt Orchestra, and being Pop Corn Queen - a title I got several years ago. [Not a fun job when it is hot - sun on the back & heat from the kettle. But during classical allows time to mix with friends.] I've found the least amount of clothes I'm allowed to wear and still be presentable.

Shiela - been hearing about your "meets" with Debby and wanted to stop by. No gallery (boo )
Hope your summer has been mild - ours has been WAY too hot. Starting to see some leaves change and really hoping we are in for an early fall this year.
Sending blessings your way!

Can't believe you missed the rain - doesn't that drive you mad?!!
Haven't had a drop here all summer long...and we usually get a thunder shower now and then. Our summer has been unusually hot and dry. I can't wait for the fall and some winter storms.
But if I get some rain - I'll send it along to you! Maybe we should do a rain dance

Furniture? That sounds fun! And I'm glad your patios are providing you with some living space. Now ... you won't believe this--the cabinet installer just called me downstairs to look at the replacement drawers/cupboards and ... they're not the same colour! They're whiter than the ones that are already in place, so someone at the factory screwed up the paint formula. Or something. Who knows? So heaven knows what will happen now, but since our designer is on holidays, we'll have to wait until she comes back after Labour Day to reorder new ones which will, of course, take another two weeks. This is why people shouldn't own guns ...

Oh Shiela, for the money we're shelling out, things should be perfect, no? If your friends don't notice the stain difference, then you're fine. But if people are looking at your cupboards funny, then get them changed. And I have no idea how ours got screwed up, paint-wise; I would think a machine would calibrate the formula. Maybe someone was asleep at the switch. Geez, I miss my friends, but I'm determined not to have company over until everything is right. Who wants to look at a dishwasher that's bare steel because the panel is off somewhere being sprayed? Yikes, what a life, huh? Let's keep smiling.

Hi Shiela ~ I'm glad you enjoyed my photo gallery - - thanks for stopping by! Thanks for the congrats about getting the ribbon at the fair, too. Now I have to find a place to hang the picture! It is large (24x30 in the frame) - - maybe over the fireplace! I like your little 'quote' at the top of your page. It is good advice that we should all take to heart!

Hi Shiela, there are lots of railways in Wales. It is famous for its narrow gauge railways that run as tourist attractions seven days a week. That is where Thomas the Tank Engine originated.
Some of the best know are LLangollen, Talyllyn, Festiniog and there is a train that goes to near the top of Mt Snowden. Most of them have steam trains running.

Shiela, just in case you get to check your messages one last time before you leave for Wales tomorrow, I wish you a Bon Voyage & a very enjoyable stay. If you have time for one last post, could you let us know what city you will be in? I'd like to google & learn a little more about the geography of Wales. If not before you leave we'll learn more when you get back. Please take lots of pictures!

Thanks for sending me the info on your sister city!! I had a little trouble getting to the website - discovered I had to take out the . after us & use only a /. But once I got there I thoroughly enjoyed looking at many of the pictures (I found YOU!) & learning about Brecon. I guess I never realized before that you live in Saline! How many from there will be in your traveling group? Have you ever hosted any of the people from Wales at your house? I could ask so many more questions, but I know you'll have a busy day with preparing to leave this evening so I won't take up any more of your time. Hope your flight is smooth & on time. Have fun!!!
