Thank you for your bithday greeting. The weather isn't cooperating - yesterday was 108°, today, my "medicare" birthday, is suppose to be 105°.

Mom called this morning to sing me Happy Birthday. Last year I was in So. Cal. with her for my Birthday.

Tonight, I will be working Britt & listening to Midori and the Britt Orchestra, and being Pop Corn Queen - a title I got several years ago. [Not a fun job when it is hot - sun on the back & heat from the kettle. But during classical allows time to mix with friends.] I've found the least amount of clothes I'm allowed to wear and still be presentable.

I'll uncork that champaign after I get home tonight. Thanks again for the Birthday wishes.

Hi Gail! By now you may have seen my photos & comments about our week at Fripp. We had a wonderful week, but I did miss my middle daughter, SIL, & 3 grandsons who couldn't come this year. Sorry I am too late to wish your hubby a happy 50th birthday, but I hope he had an extra fun day on an extra special birthday. Gosh, it's funny how 50 seems so young to me now! His hard work now will surely pay off later & someday after he's retired you two will be able to enjoy more leisure time like Rob & I do. Before we got to this point in our lives I remember very well all the times when he was out to sea for months at a time & I was a "single" mom. Also, there were many years when we were both working to put our daughters through college & pay for their weddings, & then the awful years when all four of our parents suffered from various ailments & died one after another four years in a row. I think we are very lucky to have the life we lead now, but I know that that can change on any day if one or the other of us suffers a health problem. Gee, I didn't mean to get all sentimental on you! Live, love, laugh, & be happy every day you can

Dear Gail - I wasn't at all surprised to see you leave a comment for me. You're a treasure. Also I am so sorry I haven't returned your good wishes from a couple of months ago. Just another one of those things that I have meant to do nearly every day but missed. My life is going along well. Moving was absolutely the best thing I could have done as I was getting more and more depressed about the state of the garden in my old house (quite a large garden which was dreadfully sad because of the drought. Now I have a tiny little patch which is easily maintained. I didn't feel sad about leaving the old place as Roger wasn't there any more, and I just didn't get that awful guilt that some people do. As for Liz, she is just fine. It's still early days with the cochlear but she seems to be picking things up easier and sometimes knows what I have said without looking at me. She still can't use the phone though which is sad for her but maybe that will come with time. They say it can take up to 3 years to get used to. Hope you are well too Gail. From what I read you certainly seem to keep busy. Cheers. Kate

Hi Gail, Thanks for visiting my page. Fortunately the layover at JFK was only 45 minutes! The children were great. I was worried that we were cutting it too close, but any alonger and I'm guessing that they would have been fidgety!

I love your cat pics, especially father/ daughter! We have a mother/son in my house. I'll have to see if I can get a photo together. Actually, I think the cats on the back deck are those two.

Well enough of my rambling. Have a great day!

Gail, thank you for keeping us in your thoughts. Luckily South Florida was spared. Fay never became more than a tropical storm. We had a lot of rain, and 2 extra days off from school.

Gail - got the pic on my e-mail - many thanks! I love that those birds will feed from your hands. We have Nuthatches (not a colorful or large) that are quite brave and will do the same, although I haven't had them do it with me, yet. Probably too many feeders out! I'm hoping to post a picture of one of my Nuthatches soon.
I had a grand time in your gallery!

Hi Gail, Thanks for your best wishes for James 19th on Wednesday and your kind thoughts for my SIL and nieces. My brother and SIL are divorced but her father (and my mother) didn't take sides and are both close to the others child. Living in the same town they know each other well and we shared many fathers day picnics together.
My father, step father in law and SILs father all had birthdays in September - so we would have one big birthday/fathers day picnic to celebrate. We have lots of good memories of those times. It is those memories that uphold us in our times of grief.
Thank you for your kind thoughts.

Cheers!

Hi Gail! - How are things down your way? We had a great ride! It is so nice to "Get Away" and even better to come home! I really enjoy going up to Mackinac. It is so beautiful up there on the water. On the West side of the bridege is Lake Michigan and on the East side of the bridge is Lake Huron. The bridge was built when I was a little girl. It was a big deal because they would "ferry" the cars across the water and it would take much longer! Today it is a "5 mile" ride. We rode into the Upper Peninsula (UP) for a couple of hours and turned around and came back. We were very surprised to not see any wild life.

I wish I were there to have coffee with you!!! Maybe some day............ Have a great day, Gail.

Had a week at Mt Hotham - superb snow. Daughter and s-i-l are visiting for a month from Dubai and they set a sizzling pace doing everything they miss about Melb, plus they are house hunting here. I am having a little rest while they are at her in-laws but tomorrow we go to Lorne for a week. Have I missed anything major in the last 3 weeks?

Thank you for checking. I'm havening my kitchen redone, and it is NOT gong well. Th structure change is right, but the cabinets are all wrong. I don't know how i'll fix them. The waterless water heater is not hot enough. The dishwasher has to heat the water. I don't know if this can be fixed or not. They torn up the floor tiles, and then brought me the wrong ones.

The construction work went well, but I had been thinking about that for several years. I made the mistake of buying a new kind of water heater, and cabinets off the shelf. I didn't spend enough time seeing it in my minds eye.

Gail, thanks for the offer. I have to go to Melbourne next week for a series of tests. So I can let the nurses at Epworth look after me for the week. It is MUCH easier now I know what is going on and in particular which of my various medications are helpful. It turns out that my gut feelings re what my body needs have been spot on and I'm not actually taking too much codeine and cortisone. (I'd started to think I must be addicted!)

Thanks Gail for the birthday wishes & hospital thoughts! Still hasn't been to theatre yet! The Cardiac Surgeon has decided that since Dad is in St Vincent's, where all his other Doctors are, they should all consult him & each other! He normally sees them in Dubbo, but not one of them is there at the same time as any other!!
