In Memory of Rocko

Sunlight streams through window pane
unto a spot on the floor....
then I remember,
it's where you used to lie,
but now you are no more.
Our feet walk down a hall of carpet,
and muted echoes sound....
then I remember,
It's where your paws would joyously abound.
A voice is heard along the road,
and up beyond the hill,
then I remember it can't be yours....
your golden voice is still.
But I'll take that vacant spot of floor
and empty muted hall
and lay them with the absent voice
and unused dish along the wall.
I'll wrap these treasured memorials
in a blanket of my love
and keep them for my best friend
until we meet above.

Oh Nal...I am so sorry to hear about Rocko. My heart goes out to you. A wonderful tribute to Rocko and it really brought tears to my eyes. Again, I am so sorry

A loved one is not gone until they are forgotten and to live in the hearts of those left behind is to live forever. Please don't grieve, Rocko is at peace now.

Dearest Nal, my love and prayers are with you. As I sit here and look at my own two beloved dogs, with their graying muzzles, I grieve with you. A family member has truly passed on, but he will always be in your heart. With love ...

nal, when the dust has settled and the tears have dried, please accept my apologies for a fairly crummy Ode to Rocko. I wrote it late at night with a tear in my eye and the second bit didn't come out quite right. But never mind, it was just my small contribution to you from the feelings in my heart,
With love.

Nal, my thoughts are with you. It is hard to lose a member of the family, even a four-legged one. They give you unconditional love. I am sure Rocko knew how much he was loved.

I'm sorry, Nal. I know how devastating it is to lose a beloved one like Rocko. I didn't know him, but I will miss his beautiful eyes and gorgeous face nevertheless. Much love.

Nal, I am so sorry for your loss. Rocko has left his paw print on many hearts here, but not so heavily as on your heart. I hope you are able to enjoy all the wonderful memories soon without the heartache.

Nal I'm so sorry to hear about Rocko. We love our pets like children and it's hard to bear when we lose them.

And his passing was so untimely.

Sending you a very very big hug

Nal - you feel his presence because he is with you in spirit, helping you grieve. I know when it is time for Nikki to cross Rainbow Bridge it will be very hard, but she will be there to help us through it. Bless you and Rocko.

Nal, Oh how I wish I lived near you so that I could hold you close as we cried and told all of the Rocko stories, and end up laughing as hard as we cried. Nal...Its not 'like' you lost a loved one..you 'did lose a loved one', and the pain Will be unbearable at times...give it as long as YOU need to heal...Rocko will continue to wait patiently for you to deal with what is, and for the idea that he is no longer in pain help you... But let 'NO ONE' tell you to get over it!!! Time will come when You know its right for you, and Rocko will turn toward the other animals content to wait for you to greet him and pet him again...Let IT Be...My heart breaks for you, but time and faith will help if you are open to it. It will not be easy nor should it be rushed. Let Rocko's life be your guide..may the memories sustain you until time allows you the needed space to breathe easy once more. Hold Boo close for now...she too is missing him, together you will heal. May Peace soon be yours!

Hi, Nal! I just saw your comment on Easy page 3 that you are attempting to personally thank everyone. I was going to let you know that you probably don't need to do that for most of us. We just will be glad to hear updates on how things are going.
Because you had commented on the true nature of a properly raised Rottweiler, I visited some websites today to read more about the breed. You are so right about their temperament. You did an excellent job of training Rocko, so it's no wonder that he was such a great dog! One of the sites mentioned the word stoic, which obviously describes your dear sweet giant.
I would like to echo Mamacita's comment from above. She has such a way with words and is so right in her ideas. I hope you know how much all of us on the site care for you and know how difficult this has been. Please take care of yourself and your family, including Boo, of course. May you all find peace and healing.

Nal I wish I could do more for you. I just wanted you to know that even though I have only known you a very brief time that both you and Rocko have touched me deeply and what I have done is such a very small token. Mamacita summed it up best. Don't let anyone tell you to get over it or he was just a dog. Rocko was a very precious member of your family and your best friend... how could you not grieve. Take care of yourself and know that we are all feeling for you and Rocko.

Nal, your Boo looks very like the Cinderella of the story I posted on the 'our pets' clip. Cinderella died naturally quite a few years ago. I will indeed give Merlin a big hug when I get back home. I have been away and will be another 10 days before I see him. I rang to see how he was. he was dining on roast pork and vegs!!!! I think he must be quite happy with all that!

I hope you are doing better. It takes time to recover, even from a pet. I do understand what you are feeling. I had Beau before I had a husband and kids. Having to tell my kids was the hardest part. They made a little memorial to him that hangs on the wall and that helps. If you would like to know what I did let me know. I might even be able to come over to help you. I am just up the road in Tamarac. We are going away for two weeks so if I don't answer you soon don't think I am ignoring you.

Nal, I know how you feel. I can't keep ashes in my house, we let the vet dispose of them. What we did was get a 5 x 7 shadow box frame. I lined it with black felt, glued a picture of Beau in the middle and then used glued his collar around the picture. Beau only weighed 6 lbs. The box hangs on the wall with the rest of the family photos. It is just enough for the kids to remember him by. I got Beau at 8 months old before I met my husband. A neighbor watched him the day I got married and I remember picking him up after and walking him down the street while still in my wedding gown. He was outweighed by both my kids the day they were born and was very protective of both babies. I am sure he is playing with Rocko and welcoming him to doggie heaven. Let me know if I can do anything else for you. Maybe some day we can figure out a place to meet.

Jim is a changed man from the family photo you posted in 2005. How are you coping now? Any plans for a new friend in your life? Some friends of mine lost their dog after 12 years, and found a new companion a few weeks latr. It made them very happy. Take care.

Nal - I can't say I know what you are going through except for the fact that I know Nikki's days are numbered, and you lost Rocko too soon. I always said that we would never have another dog after her because our lives are so busy. But now that our son has Addy (the golden retriever in the photos) I also know that our house will not be complete without a dog, we will have another one. Please keep us up to date on your search and then your finding a new companion. I now know that our house would be empty without a canine friend there for us. God bless you on your search.

Hi Nal, Thank you very much for the birthday wishes, I had a very nice day. Went to my favorite Mexican resturant, even had dessert 'flan' yum, yum.
I hope you find the perfect dog (or he/she finds you). We can never replace an old friend just make new ones.

Hi Nal. Just dropped in to see how you are doing. I see you have been busy with the camera and taking lots of family pics. I heard on the grapevine that you are getting a new dog and I think that will be great. Won't ever replace Rocko but will good for you and the new dog to find each other.
