WELCOME TO THE BEAN PAD....

Before anyone asks I'm not related to Mr Bean although I must admit we saw him live in Melbourne many moons ago and it was one of the most memorable shows I've been too. 'Bean' is a childhood nickname that my elder sister bestowed apon me - rhymes with my second name 'Jean'. Truth often is a bit boring - should've let you ponder on such a strange handle  [name for those not up on Ozzie slang] for a bit longer.

Nothing else to say but I'm glad you dropped bye .....

Hey Bean

Life interferes with catching up with friends, doesn't it? How are you? What have you been up to?

Thank you for the link to Lachie's school. It sounds just like the Steiner schools we have here. It is one of the frustrating things that you can't explore subjects you are interested in to the fullest (and are also discouraged from further study into them) when you are interested in them 'cause the dept of ed. has got this regimented idea about what has to be taught.

I must also say that the headmaster in that article is also my Jacques' headmaster. I know it is a good school as they are able to instil in the boys some of those traits that he was talking about. Jacques told me that his name was read out at assembly in a commendation from a 90 yr old lady whose trolley had overturned whilst shopping and he stopped and helped her pick up all her groceries and then helped her with the rest of her shopping. Now, for me, that makes the horrendous fees they charge worth it (and I really don't need to buy chocolate biscuits anymore). I would love for his school to be more like Lachie's in the flexibility of the curriculum - that would be awesome.

I think that this message is becoming a little convoluted so I will stop now. I hope that you got my drift.

I also have to say that I hate not being able to teach what the students are interested in! The curriculum can be so restrictive from both directions.

Hi Bean - you asked about what camera I had for the Venice photos - I take no credit at all for them, well, perhaps just the fact that I cart the suitcases around while hubby carts his photo equipment! He has a series of cameras, Canons I believe, which make him almost embarrassing to be with - like one of those paparazzi blokes. People have been known to stop and ask who I am - thinking I must be famous - just because he's taking a photo of me with some lens that would put his manhood to shame! I was in a shop once and found myself being stared at by three women through the window thank you very much, and all because he was on the other side of the road behind a lamp post taking pics of me. Sometimes it's very embarrassing! But give him his due, he takes good pics!

Beanie Baby - you are such sunshine in my life! Thank you for stopping in to fill me in on your trip to your sister's. Did what you did with my mom's things about 5 years ago and it was quite overwhelming...just me and my dad - tough. How lovely to have that time with your sister on the drive up and back. When I drove back home after doing that with my dad I wound up hitting a dear on the highway when I was only 15 minutes from reaching home. Just grazed it, but it jumped into oncoming traffic in the opposite direction. I was devastated. I know the exhaustion you are talking about. So glad you slept and slept...but so very nice to have you back on the pages!

Hi Bean, thanks for the visit! I have more photos from this year to post, but haven't had time yet. Plus those decisions on eliminating some of the old ones... Yes, I think I would enjoy your outback. You say spring is the best time? When would that be? When we lived in Arizona, the desert bloomed most near us in the fall about September, after the late summer monsoon rains. Sometimes I think there is something ancient and majestic in the red rock formations that just pulls me in, a comforting ageless peace. And some people feel that way about oceans, others about rivers, others about farmland. It's nice that our earth has such a bounty for all of us. And thanks for the belated birthday wishes. I did enjoy my birthday, and especially greetings from thruout this marvelous world. Aren't we lucky to live in this time of communication?!!

Bean, enjoyed our chat this morning. Tom and Jess are adorable. I am sure that Rachel would love to come and play with them some day. It would be a long way to travel for a playdate.

Bean; thanx for the message. I found your avatar-present on p.4 of 20th September and appreciate it. You attention cheered me up a little. However I am in considerable physical and mental pain today - not because of your avatar - or because I drank too much last night (a symptom as much as cause) - but from accumulated stress arising from a host of other reasons -
co-inciding with an innate reduction in 'volition'

hi Bean,
my photo from yesterday was taken in San Francisco at the Dolores Mission. It was founded in 1776. It's easy to google if you want more info.

How have you been? enjoying the spring weather and flowers?

I haven't been keeping up with the posts because it hurts my eyes. I'm coming up to Melb on Tues to see an opthalmologist on Wed. Still, I'm generally much better that I have been for a while.

Thanks for becoming my friend Bean. I have enjoyed learning more about Australia since I have belonged to Sudokuland. That is one of the fun things about the site. If a lamington is what Wikdicsionary says it is, (A small square Australian cake made with sponge cake covered on all sides (including top and bottom) with chocolate and desiccated coconut.) I want one. Thanks for introducing me to some of your friends thru your photo gallery.
I watched the video ... very good but I don't think that our President Bush should even get a satirical salute when he leaves. He just needs to run off to Texas with all his Millions of our tax dollars and hide for the rest of his life.

Hi Bean,

Lovely flower! Water lily? The colors are absolutely beautiful. Regarding the baby robins, I think there were four, but one was hiding behind it's sibling. The nest was in a ladder, hung horizontally along the side of an outbuilding/shed. Debby's husband went to get the ladder for some climbing, and had to come back into the house to do something else instead. We got to go see the babies before they left the nest, and counted ourselves lucky!

Cheers,
Jenn
