Thanks for visiting! Pick a wild animal species and become its benefactor. I help turtles. Perhaps you might want to save Tassie Devils, or endangered Florida Panthers, or something small and not well known that only lives near you. We humans now impact every living thing... we have a moral obligation to be good stewards.

Hi Jim, Just went through all your photos. I have been to Washington but none of the other places. Enjoyed all the birds and animals etc. (I have looked at some of your photos before). All very interesting and educational.

Hi Jim! Really do hope the hurricane season has lost its bite. Because otherwise according to the climatologists, geologists, global warming has lengthen and made more severe storm seasons. Even though earth's history has had hotter climates - the Cretaceous and more recent the Eocine epoch, this time man has hasten the change! Lord only knows what that could do.

Oh BTW, my little special creature is the Palos Verdes Blue Butterfly. Poor thing won't even cross a street to find its larval food - Astragalus trichopodus leucopsis (Rattle weed). In 1992 it was declared extinct by Dr Rudy Mattoni. Then in 1993 when the government opened a military fuel depot which has restricted before, they decided to have scientists go through to check the wildlife. Dr. Mattoni went and was pleasantly surprised by the butterfly. It was saved by the military restrictions. The area is closed off to public for the preservation of these beautiful shiny blue butterfly. And it's near the school where I teach.

Jim - saw your comment anticipating the snow bird migration. Was wondering: Do you specifically have any way in which the snow birds add to your personal economy?

Jim, glad to chat. Actually, I knew you were talking about people who winter in better weather, like you have in S. Fla. You said you welcomed the snowbirds because of their positive impact in the local economy. I was just wondering if you are able to sell any goods or services and make money directly for yourself during "snowbird season." Sort of my way of asking if you had any self-supporting hobbies or sideline business activities that you'll be gearing up for the next few months.

Sorry Jim. I read Heidi's reply before I read your post. She merely congratulated India also but didn't say why. Outside the financial meltdown, the cricket result is the biggest news item in Australia this morning. In fact the cricket has the last three pages of the paper and the financial situation has been relegated to page 25 in the busiess section. Deciding not to have a dog again was a hard decision but my wife & I are not getting any younger and we thought a new dog would outlast both of us and as both cats are about 7 years old a puppy would probably stress them too.

Thanks Jim for your explanation on posting. As I am rarely up around midnight, I had never realise we can post on the day before..... silly me, there I was, waiting for the page to change date by itself....lol.... and wondering where every body was... Glad you notice.

Hi Jim,

Don't worry about the misunderstanding. (I have a feeling that you don't worry much about internet banter. ) I've always felt that communication w/o face-to-face contact is very difficult except for the most talented of writers.

Thanks for your comments on my pictures. The geese in formation is one of my favorites.

We will be in Florida next summer, but will not be near Jupiter. Too bad; I'd like to meet you sometime.

Cheers, Hal

I've brought you a present...
I've just looked through your newer pics. With your interest in wildlife, you seem to live in the perfect area. Wonderful picture of the hawk!
Thank you for your comments on my photos. I'm glad you enjoyed them.
While growing up, I met many of the pilots that my Dad flew with. None of them wanted to recount their war experiences. I imagine it was as painful for them as it was for him. It was interesting to find from the Sudoku group that he (they) were not unusual in that regard.
Enjoy your day. Have a slice of cake

Enjoy your special day - I went over to Oak brook Mall with my son this fine fall day and walked around the German Christmas town -- it's heading down to Daley Plaza next week. We had a wonderful colorful fall up North - Take Care, Mary

Thanks, Jim, for your message. We are in Spring Hill (Hernando County) on the west coast. My husband and I watched the launch from our front yard! This was my first time to see a night launch and found it quite beautiful. Your photos are fabulous. I'll share the with hubby when he wakens.
I seldom post anything, but almost always do the Easy puzzle. I've become close friends with Jano from Lebanon and Kathy from Valrico. Jano has come here for a visit and Kathy and I have been to each other's homes.
CeeCee has promised to start a quilt when her demands for being a grandmother have lessened.
Could you photograph your antique quilt and post it? I'd love to see it. I, too, have quilts made in the 1800's as my grandmother and her mother both were quilters.
You can get my email address from Ed in Valrico.

Hi Jim! Just playing catch up tonight on the site & have to first apologize for missing your birthday on Nov. 13. I had intended to post a greeting to you before we left on our trip that day, but it was one of the things on the list in my head that I never got around to. Don't know if you'll believe it, but I actually remembered that I forgot as we were waiting at the airport! Oh well, hope you had a happy day. At least I will be able to give you a couple belated gifts - some beer cans we brought home for you from each of the four countries we visited. Rob was more than happy to empty the cans for you. We found ourselves (me, too!) drinking more beer than usual since it was quite hot there & cold beer tasted much better than wine!
Thank you for remembering MY birthday & posting on my page. I had a wonderful day starting off with watching the sun rise over Angkor Wat! We actually took thousands of pictures which we will have to whittle down to just our favorites to post on Flickr. We may not get around to that until after Christmas, but do take a look at our tiger pic on my page! That was so exciting! Your shuttle launch shots are pretty exciting, too, especially with that full moon! One of these times we must get over there to watch a launch from nearby.
I'm determined to be early, instead of late, to wish you & Will a Merry Christmas & Happy New Year!
