Thanks for visiting! Pick a wild animal species and become its benefactor. I help turtles. Perhaps you might want to save Tassie Devils, or endangered Florida Panthers, or something small and not well known that only lives near you. We humans now impact every living thing... we have a moral obligation to be good stewards.

Dear Jim,

Sorry I missed your post yesterday. That was a lovely tribute to your late wife. Losing a loved one is so very hard, especially when they're still in the prime of life. Please know that my thoughts are with you. And thank you for sharing your sage advice.

Jim,

I just read of your loss. You have my deepest condolences. Thank you for you contributions to sudokuland. I think of those I've lost every day, but I have grown accustomed to remembering the good times more than the hard times. I hope you find you own path to peace.

Hi Jim,

I didn't get on site at all yesterday. Just read today's posts, went back to check what you had posted yesterday. It is a very sad anniversary and you are right - life is tenuous, we must make the most of it. At least you have loved someone deeply - there is nothing more we can ask for.

Jim, just a little note to let you know Mike Swoboda made it to his last meeting as mayor. It was a touching time. he gave a small speech to a packed city hall. they had to turn away some people because of the fire codes on occupancy. It was great to see him. He doesn't remember much about the shooting which is a good thing I think. Take care

Hi Jim, The Picture was taken approx. 28 miles east of Vancouver, USA. I do have others. Bright and clear days. Yes I have Multnomah Falls picture. Virtually all of my pictures are old technology. Film. Slides (older) and prints (more recent). One day I have to get the best "digitized". Posting them is a drawn out process. My only connection option is a slow dial up. Cable & DSL not avail. Can't justify Sat. link...
Have a super fine day

Hi Jim! Stopped by to see if you had posted any pictures from your trip yet. I have just gotten around to uploading a bunch of our July 1-5 Michigan trip photos to Flickr. Next will be the ones from the CMA & Weeki Wachee. Had to play around on Picasa with quite a few of the Aquarium day shots. I guess we didn't pick such good places to pose as many had to be lightened up, but there are still some good ones. Rob & I enjoyed our day with you, Jaz, & Will very much. Never would have guessed Jaz had a headache. Hope she had a good trip back to OZ. How are things at the Marinelife Center? If there is any bad news about Jonah, would you please let me know as I often forget to check the blog. Thank you.

Jim, you are correct that that sentence was pathetic. I am usually a very good speller and take the time to make sure it is correct. I have two excuses. One: I am not used to getting up at 5:00 am since I got to sleep in over the summer and, Two: My husband was downstairs yelling at me to hurry up.

Hi Jim, thanks for leaving a message! I really enjoyed looking through your photos - you have a great collection. Your guess about Nunawading was a little bit out - it's actually way down south, a suburb of Melbourne, in the state of Victoria. I believe the name is aboriginal, of uncertain meaning, and it's pronounced "nunna/wodding." I like it because it's different - our neighbouring suburbs are Mitcham, Box Hill, Vermont - not exactly original!
I looked up Key Lime Pie - yummy! Which of my favourites would you prefer - lemon cheesecake, raspberry flummery, Russian Caramel or a nice chocolate mousse?

Hi Jim! The latest bulletin for Fripp is predicting 5O-60 MPH winds later this afternoon. We found a website which includes a webcam view from the top of a house on Fripp. When I last checked winds were only 6 MPH & waves don't look big at all. There is a huge sandbar in front of our house - don't know if that will help keep back the storm surge like sand bags do?? You are right that Ike seems a much bigger threat than Hanna. I hope that your house will be spared . Will you stay with your friend in Orlando if you have to evacuate? Please tell your son Rob & I said hi! How's he doing with his new guitar?

Hi Jim! I am a fan of Pearls Before Swine, also.

I'm sure hoping you are safe during the coming storm.
It's fortunate that you've had enough warning to be able to prepare. Good thoughts coming your way...

Jim, sorry to say that Mike Swoboda passed away today. It was a combination of things. He had cancer, had taken a bad fall a few months ago and I would guess the shooting played a small part in it also.
If I hear anymore I will let you know

I was just wondering if it was 95 or later when we had our floods -- I live near Huffman street - where alot of homes were flood beyond repair - Fox Valley mall was under water -- a lake for a parking lot --- it's just been steady for over 24 hours -- we seem to be keeping up with it, but over by arrowhead park - the street is closed as the water from the park is running into the street - that's the worst I have seen so far.

Hello Jim: Long time no talk. I need help and thought, perhaps, you could help. I have a plant growing in my yard that has me baffled. I uploaded a photo in my Flickr page and I would be thrilled if you looked at it. I've seen this bush in the Everglades and Loxahatchee but I never found out its name. The leaves and flowers close up at night. I am guarding it (hubby loves to clean up all my wild flowers calling them weeds) and hope it will grow up to be a healthy bush for the various visiting birds to use as perch and/or food. With my luck it is a poisonous weed hated by birds.
OK. Taking too much of your time. This is the URL to the photo:

If you click on "All Sizes" you might be able to get a closer look.
Thanks in advance.

Hey Jim, glad you had some good memories looking at my website. Sad to say the Clown is gone. We were at the Lake this summer and they have gotten rid of it. Shoters 21 is also gone. It is now condos (like they need them there, NOT) Our favorite restaurant, Jolly Rodgers, burnt to the ground when were were there. It was up the Gravois Arm. There is a new place called Coconuts at the very end of that arm now. Good, but a little pricey. The Alton pool is sooo different now, but still so much fun. Alton Marina is a wonderful place to visit while on the river.

I too love Pensecola Beach. It is the only place i miss traveling to now that I own my own business and don't do the whole "Traveling Property Manager" deal. Any way. nice chatting. I got a bunch of girls in tanning before their home coming tonight. TTFN

Jim, saw your comments on Steve Irwin. We live about 1 hr from his Zoo. My son works in their local supermarket & sees Terri often. It is strange to still see his face on the billboards around town, makes me sad that someone with so much life had to leave us. It was an Australia Zoo Whale watching boat that I recently went out on. When you think that 1 person can only do so much just look at what he achieved!

Guess what! I decided to drive up to Loop Road this morning (Big Cypress).

I drove up to the Monroe Station entrance and drove pass Sweetwater Slough before I came to a puddle impressive enough to force me to do a 20 point u-turn.

Well...Just North of the Collier County dividing line I stopped to take some shots of a butterfly and a dragonfly when I sensed movement on the road. I turned to see a panther cross the road. It stopped, turned, looked at me, and as I turned the camera to shoot it, it jumped into a thicket on the other side of the road.

I rode (crawled) pass the spot trying to see if I could detect any movement or water splashing (the water level is extremely high) however, nothing! I drove to a turn around. I then, went back. Wouldn't you know it? It had come out to the road - again - and it was running ahead of me! I took a shot without stopping the car. Lousy shot. The light and the movement of the car, a dirty windshield and the cat running did not help at all! However, at least, I was able to prove to my Jim - this cat was NOT a figment of my imagination.

It is a beautiful animal - a bit skinny - but I was surprised at its size. If the males tend to be larger than the females....this one was a male! There were a lot of rabbits on the road, so I am sure it does not lack food.

If the rains stay away I might be able to float my PT over the one spot and travel the whole road soon. For now, I am not venturing over it!

Patience pays. You know how many gallons of gas I've burned looking for this darned panther?
I had gotten glimpses of one in ENP (Research Road and in the Pine strand) but they were just that - glimpses. But this one! Oh Jim! It was AWESOME! It was close enough where I could see it clearly (no collar and BEAUTIFUL!) Then, to see it a second time? That's like.... hitting the Lotto - twice - on the same day! The shot is a butt shot and blurry - by now you probably have seen it. I just wish I had been faster with the camera when it was looking at me and closer.

Jim, Great new pics. Is that Lewie the white gator in the one? He was at the St. Louis Zoo years ago. I had a hard time getting thru the viewing. I have a major phobia of snakes (Yikes I just said the "s" word) and he was in the reptile house.

Looks like you had some great seats to a Cards game. How do you like the new stadium?

Hi Jim,
I was delighted to receive your visit to My Page & Gallery. You must have been stealthy about it because I was fast asleep at the time and your quiet entry into my room did not waken me – and (thanks for reminding me) the batteries on all my alarms are flat. If I’d known you were coming I’d ’ave baked a black forest gateau. Because they recognized you from your ‘Crabby’ picture, the sheep all fled. Their escape was accelerated, because they wondered if you just might be accompanied by a regiment of alligators. Being timid, wary creatures that dislike even pictures of alligators, sheep feel such pictures might be, I fact, real; - alligators pretending to be pictures - rather than logs (and, after all, white paper is made from green or black wood). As a statuesque panhandler, the reward for any such alligator might just be a delicious, juicy mouthful of wool, ticks, eyeballs, bones and raw mutton (please tell me - what is “yum-yum” in alligator language?)
