Thank you for the Birthday Wishes last week. I had dinner with Mom that evening. She then flew up to Portland, OR for a Class Reunion (68th) and flew back for the wedding on Saturday of her only grand-nephew (my cousin’s son – 41, first marriage). Mom (85) refused to take a nap after getting up at 3 am for the flight back and insisted on driving (through Los Angeles to Orange County) for the wedding – she still drives fast. By the time we got to there we were not speaking & the drive back was even worse – getting home around midnight. The wedding & reception was wonderful (so was the beach party the night before, which Mom had missed). Dad always said the reason we fight, was because we are so much alike – both strong willed women. But, we will always love each other. I left Tuesday, had a meeting in No. Calif. Wednesday afternoon, and decided to camp at Burney Falls State Park – making my dog happy, before returning home. The back is still bothering me – but no violent pains – more of the gnawing variety and when standing up after sitting too long (so there were a lot of stops on the way down and on the way home). Thanks for the good wishes – I’m safe if not sound.

Dear CP, Everyone has been just so thoughtful. I had no idea I would get the response and good wishes that have been coming my way all day. I'm happy to say though that I'm feeling a lot better now than I was 14 hours ago. What a lovely bunch of people.

CP,

I just wanted to stop by and properly thank you for your kind words. The support of friends at such a sad time really does make a difference. Thanks again.

Yes, I do remember! Thank you for the smiles you gave me. I remember jumping on my bike at the beginning of a day with something to eat (all home prepared) and disappearing until dark - when you had to be home. That was great, too - no-one was worried about where we were, and I am sure there were lots of adults who just kept an eye on us!
I remember the Wanda Beach murders and the Beaumont children going missing, and having a feeling that my innocence had somehow been lost - even though I was too young to really understand the enormity of it all, and I think that is where the downward spiral started...
Have a lovely day! Hope we get some of that rain Anne is talking about in WA!

Hi, CP!
Last week I posted a photo of a stack and whack quilt I'd just finished. Have you been working on any quilts recently?

Knitting socks??? Why??? Isn't that terribly difficult? Quilting is so much fun.
Thank you for your comments. I didn't take them as teacherish. Maybe it's because I taught school for 42 years and don't recognize myself.
Good luck with those socks.

Hi CP, Stopped by for a visit. The quilts are so beautiful. Do you quilt? I have embroidered a top for a quilt but had to take it to a person to have it quilted. I don't have the knowledge or equipment to do that part.

CP, I'm so touched by your kindness. During these teary days and with so many setbacks that cut us off at the knees, I'm comforted immeasureably by so many caring friends from near and far. Despite the darkness, I'm such a lucky person--great hubby, amusing cats, good food and shelter and wonderful people to cheer me. And I'm my mother's daughter--it doesn't get any better than that. Sending you for your thoughtfulness and a bottle of wine. I'll raise a glass at this end and drink a toast to you.

Just realised I had not visited your page before. Love the photo of the Joey. My mum raised one over 40 years ago and boy was it spoilt. Loved eating a "baked dinner". Meat vegetables the lot! Hope to see you Sunday. Guess you are having a good sleep before another busy night?

CP, there is a string of small cafes along Bronte Road facing the beach. The one where I will be is called Libby's (I think). I will be wearing my floppy hat (much to Anne's disgust) and carrying a fairly serious camera. It would be just wonderful if you were able to attend.

I feel like its been forever since I dropped in for a visit, and its just been far too long...but I so enjoyedthe trip that I shall try to get by more often. What wonderful pictures in your gallery...I was very taken with one of the quilts in particular, but all display so much talent...thanks for the exposure. I also got quite a laugh for Shosho's joke about the old couple having sex and finding an electric fence....good for the soul and in keeping with my 'sparkling' comments on today's easy...this has been a great day andyou have been at the core of it!!! Thank you.

Hi CP, I'm glad you enjoyed Temora, we plan to go next year when I will join the old pilots on a nostalgia trip. I flew in the Canberra a few times and enjoyed it, but inside it was very british - cramped, inadequately ventilated and the instrument panel was just a mess. I think that the aircrew positions were just afterthoughts. I understand your concern when Mike was in the nav seat for air displays, I've done a couple myself. The danger is the pilot getting a rush of blood to the head and departing from the rehearsed patterns. Still, we are survivors, aren't we, and I guess that's what counts.

Hi, CP! I had to giggle when I read your post about us Yanks celebrating big-time on Thanksgiving and then scaling back for Christmas. Wish that were true! Unfortunately, most of us go overboard for both holidays, and that's where the major stress sets in! My husband and I have scaled way back for both and try not to travel anywhere during those hectic periods. We long ago stopped exchanging gifts with anyone, choosing to make donations to worthy causes instead. We'll be celebrating today's holiday with our "adopted" family - folks we met through the tennis league I started here. There will be more than 30 people (4 generations) present at dinner and everyone contributes a dish so the hostess is not overwhelmed. Life is good!!!

Hi CP. The quilts are magnificent! I've visited before quite a while ago but was interrupted by an unexpected visitor before I said hello & sadly have got back since! Anyway I was visiting Granny Mo & saw your message about stuffing birds with birds. She may have said something as well as me I don't know but she let you know. Anyway, I did comment on it! But I don't know if I can give you much information about it, I just saw this British program on TV about this guy doing a 12 twelve bird dish for Christmas. I pretty sure he started with a partridge & definitely finished with 11 birds in a goose! There was a pigeon, chook, duck & pheasant as well as the partridge & the goose; that's half of them! Can't remember the rest. I think they were all boned. The goose still had its legs & wings, but the body bones were gone! It took a very long time to cook! If you try: http://www.bbc.co.uk/food/
you might be able to get more information.

No CP, Col wasn't a particular friend of mine but I agree that his death was tragic. I guess he's another who proves my theory - 'The closer you fly to the ground, the greater are your chances of hitting it.' His death will be a loss to Australian aviation.
