nal,thank you ever so much for your kind thoughts, they are much appreciated. My aunt's funeral has been held and it was a beautiful, thoughtful service, celebrating the life of a lovely old lady. We return to Sydney in a couple of days. Keep taking those wonderful photos, but don't step on an alligator while trying to get the best angle. Take care.

Hi nal, thank you for stopping by. We have survived the trip to Melbourne and back. The funeral was quite touching and was a commemoration of my aunt's wonderful life.
On a different subject, I have received a nice compliment from Tami/Florida and she seems to be having some difficulty with her photography. I am going to try to help her with putting photos onto flickr but I thoought she might enjoy looking at some of your wonderful photos so I have sent her the following message -
'Tami, have you been in touch with nal from Miami? She is a great photographer and, as far as I can tell, she lives in your neck of the woods. Have a look at nal's flickr page and it might inspire you and give you some ideas.'

Had a love surprise on Friday, when my daughter who lives in Coffs Harbour (about 6 hours north of us) arrived for Mothers Day! A phone call from my son who lives in Melbourne (about 10 hours south) and a kiss from my youngest, who is still at home, complete the day!!

Glad to see you posting more often, but I am still missing you. Sorry we didn't connect when I was in Florida, but I still hope it will happen. My son and his family celebrated his birthday in a ride through the everglades...perhaps messing up many shots for you with the noise of an air boat. I think I'll do that next time I'm there, just to glimpse the area where you have found such great wildlife!

Na, I can always use another friend. I'm 'southern' by birth by being just below the Mason-Dxon line when I was born in Washington, DC. So I guess southern by choice works best; but, I only lived in the 'north' for the first 25 yrs of my life, the other 30 some have been spent no further north than SC. How long were you in Cuba?

Hi nal, I have just spent an interesting time rambling back through your photo portfolio on flickr. I was looking for evidence that the photo which appears on today's medium jigsaw was one of yours - the black frame and a beautiful photo of everglades flora had convinced me. But by going back I can now see how your photography has matured over the years. Your earlier photos attracted little comment, but things began to change as you gained experience, started framing your photos and changed cameras. You have a natural eye for the beauty of your subjects, a good camera and a great lens and I can see that you are going ahead in leaps and bounds. I wish you well and thank you for allowing me to share in the pleasure of your beautiful photography.

Where in the country did the Cherokee originate? My parents were both born and raised in Pennsylvania. I never lived there (thank goodness -- with no offense intended). My maternal grandparents were British (my grandfather was Quaker, but died when my mother was 15). My paternal grandparents were Irish - my grandmother; and my grandfather immmigrated from Germany (then worked on the Manhatten Project). Boring! but there it is. Like I say, I'm a southerner by choice. We decided when my husband got out of the Navy that SC was as far north as we were going to lve; so we've been here for 25 years, both of our sons grew up here and still live here for the moment. They were both born in Florida, so they are southern by birth. Now that I've bored you enough I'm going to let you go for now, but I'll leave you some key lime cookies for refreshment. Nal, If you see a panther, no way are you going to mess up that shot...I've seen too much of your work...sure you will be excited and will have to take more shots than usual, yet what you end up with will be wonderful...I just hope when you make it big, I can afford to view your works....lol...! Hi Nal - I so glad to hear you are getting some rain down there. Hopefully it is raining over on the other side (Cape Coral) where my mom and dad are! Believe it or not, my husband and I thought we saw a panther in our back woods last Fall. We didn't get a very good look. It didn't walk like a dog. It was either a bear or a panther. It definitly was black. By the time I pulled the binoculars out of the cupboard, it was gone. I am anxious to see your pictures! There are signs at the Fort Myers Airport, 'Panther Crossing.' Lots of Luck!

Nal you definitely did not give too much info. I was totally fascinated by your work and love all your photos. I will have to put an album of my stuff together on flickr. I have a slr but have not used it for many years. I have a digital that I got a couple of years ago and that is all I use now. You have given me the inspriration to unpack the slr and have a go at that again. Thank you for your kind comments on the koala picture.

nal, would it be too rude of me to ask how you achieve your exquisite macro photos? I am presuming that you use a macro-telephoto lens but it is not entirely clear from the information available on your flickr site. Whatever equipment you use, don't stop using it because you are turning out some fabulous photos.

Oh the bugs - they are suppose to be coming out up here this weekend - I'm in a fairly new neighborhood so don't think we will get alot - but I remember them 17 years ago - get out the headphones to block out the noise.
