Back at Christmas time I posted the news that grandson Chase was going to become a big brother in July.  I am happy to announce that his baby sister Maddox Ann Martin was born at 6:09 P.M. on July 27, 2015.  She weighed 9 pounds and measured 21 1/4 inches long.  We are thrilled to have a third granddaughter (the others are 19 and 16!) and six grandsons and feel very blessed.

Thanks, Kathy, for your input in my camera search! I haven't narrowed it down to a particular model yet, but it looks like it will be a Canon.

Morning....yup it's me. LOL Returning after a "leave of absence" Started just two years ago and then dropped out of sudokuland as I having been telling folks. I'm glad I'm back and I'm finding myself hooked again already. My puzzle time needs desperate improvement. AND the site has changed. Wonderful things and more to slow me down from getting to work on time... Geeezzzee! Thanks for the acknowledgement. Yup jj (jim) and ceecee caught me. It was jj's invitation to check out his pictures that brought me back here. I can't seem to figure out how to pull up your pics. AND you brought me to tears with your Youtube. What a wise young man. See you around!

Just popping to say for the New Year's card, it was fascinating to read about the traditions that I had never heard of before. In fact, the first time I heard about the coal was when Karen/Texas talked about it on easy. Now I know where they stem from.
I cannot get over how big Ebony is these days. She is a very beautiful dog.
Best wishes to you and your family for 2008

Hi Kathy,
It was good to hear from you again. I hope you had a great Christmas with your family, especially the grand kids. What did you do for Christmas this year? I hope you have a Happy New Year and that 2008 finds you happy and healthy
...especially healthy.
Yes, Tasha and Jeff did come home for Christmas. She said it didn't really feel like Christmas (too warm) in FL. and was wishing it would snow here. Well, it snowed about 3 inches on Christmas Day and there is still a slight bit of white left on our grass. They spent time with us and with Jeff's mom and dad. It was great that we could all spend the holidays together.
Jeff spent the last 2 months in "sub school" in Connecticut, his final classes before joining his newly retrofitted "boomer subs". He has a few weeks off with Tasha before he has to report to his new base in southern GA. He has an apartment in Jacksonville, FL. which is about 30 minutes from his base and 5 hours from Tasha. Tasha started ground school the day before Thanksgiving and then flying lessons at a private airport flying a small 2 seater. After she has a total of 25 hours, she can start flying lessons at the base. But every time she has gone up, she has gotten sick. She is getting a special bracelet that electrically shocks (a little) her wrist while she is flying and is supposed to help cure her. If it doesn't work, she will be transferred to another kind of job in the Navy. Oh, I asked, but she says she doesn't know Steven Schweichler.
SaraLyn is still going with her "53-year-old" boyfriend, Dale. They left here and went to Idaho for him to start a new job, but then went to spend Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years in Texas with his family. Now she says he starts a job back here in Washington in about a week. At least she sounds happy, is seeing things and places she hasn't been to before and seems to be having fun.
Mike is still on the waiting list to get another kidney transplant (he got a virus that killed the first transplant. I did all the medical tests 2 months ago to be a live donor (we both have "O+" blood), but since we haven't heard back I guess I'm probably not a good enough match. We also got a new truck (I traded my "beloved" yellow mustang in for it) for Christmas and a nice travel trailer so we can start taking some short weekend trips now that we have become "empty nesters". We might even visit Tasha in Pensacola if we can find a dialysis unit near her.
Well, it is getting late so I'd better get going. Please write back and let me know what you did over the holidays. Did any of the hurricanes come close to where you live?
Talk to you soon..........LynnDee

Kathy, I just read your touching and thoughtful message and you need to know how much it warmed my heart. We got through Christmas with a few tears, naturally, but we are also telling "funny Mom stories" which cheer us. Yes, you and I are fortunate to have had such wonderful women who helped to shape our lives, and I'm sure, like you, I'll miss my mom for many years to come; I don't think those choked-up moments go away, and I also don't have a problem with caring so deeply. Bless you for thinking of me during this season. I wish you and your family all the very best during the coming year and hope that each day brings you joy that bubbles from the heart and peace for your soul.

Kathy, I had received Logan's wonderful call in an e-mail several weeks ago. It made me cry then and it did today. Thank you for sharing it with everyone. Jacquie Lawson is an amazing graphic artist and a favorite of mine. I had never heard of "first footer's". Thanks to you and others on this great site, I have learned of several New Year's customs. I would like to wish you and your family (including the furry members) a very happy and healthy New Year filled with love!

Oh, Kathy, that was a beautiful conversation. I hope my Brandon will have that kind of wisdom, too. I have had wonderful times in the early mornings when he wakes before his parents do. I get up to run, last couple of morning, I didn't run because I was having a ball with him. I took some video with my new camera and captured his conversation and playing! Was it you or Jane getting a new camera? I'm having a senior moment. Anyway, I am sooo glad I got the Canon. I've got enough to last me a while!

Morning....I love your sweet Ebony. I bet she loves the beach! Years ago we had a lab/gldn rtrvr mix. Her name was Abby. She was black like Ebony. We miss her terribly but we have others who wonderfully stepped in with their love. What a wonderful family you have. I'm betting you had a very busy holiday! Our was peaceful and I didn't mind it one bit. I too am a Jacquie Lawson fan. I have been for years. I no longer send out snail mail cards. Your beach house it beautiful. We have friends who have a house down in Baja, just 1/2 hr south of San Diego and we go there frequently. There is nothing like the sea, surf and wild life to calm one. Well I'm off to get coffee and watch the parade. Take care.

Hi Kathy, Thanks for visiting my photo gallery. The car is a Toyota Prius - a hybrid car which runs on gas and electric motor/battery. Good fuel economy.
Old parliament house is now almost a museum - there were cars and people around but we got the shot at a good time. New Parliament House nearby has so much security it would be impossible to get a similar shot!

Hello Kathy - to you and your family! I haven't made any plans for Florida yet. The day after Christmas I acquired a "stone" in one of my Saliva Gland. I had a "knot" on the side of my face. I went to the doctor Friday afternoon and spent the evening in Emergency! My doctor wanted to rule out Cancer. I was relieved to find it was only a stone, but I want it gone completely before I start traveling. It is slowly going down. By Sunday morning I looked like I had elephantitis! They put me on antibiotics to make sure an infection does not set in. I have sucked on lemon, lemon candy, even candy canes trying to get the saliva running and dislodge the stone.

Anyway, that is the latest in my life! We have freezing rain heading our way this evening. I need to fill some water jugs!

Is it cold down your way? I heard Florida was in a deep freeze too.

You must be busy packing? Have a great day.

I haven't seen all the Depp movies so had a gander at some of them. Can't wait to see him in Sweeney Todd. I liked him in Chocolat, excellent film. Hope you and yours are all well, take care xx

Hi, Kathy! Looks like interest in the T-shirt project has fizzled. Oh well, it was fun while it lasted!

After 3 years running the league, I had just about run out of steam, and since no one has offered to take over, we will be retiring the league. I'll still be organizing monthly round More...

robins at Jekyll Island Tennis Center and some other fun events, but I didn't want to have to go through another season of team tennis. It's too much work, and it's so hard to get the teams together! I'll let USTA take over from here on out. I accomplished my primary goal, however, of introducing as many tennis players to each other as I could. There were 30 people at the first organizational meeting 3 years ago, and we ended up this past fall with 168!

Now I'll have more time to do other things - like traveling and getting together with other Sudokuists!!!

Hi Kathy. Thanks for the comments on the roses. They were grown by my neighbour on the river. The bush is on the front edge of the property looking down over the water, so they get the full gamut of weather! (no snow though!) He broke his femur before they were in flower last year & was (still is) at his son's place because it was too difficult there - boat access only steep block etc. etc - I picked some to take back to Sydney with me, photographed them & emailed the pictures to him!

Answer to math problem: 10990 (343 big cats X 4 = 1372 legs, 2401 little cats X 4 = 9604 legs, 7 girls X 2 = 14 girl legs; TOTAL LEGS = 10990) We are not told if the driver is on board the bus so we can't include him! The hidden part of the solution is that each girl has 7 backpacks - not very logical! I got it wrong the first time so don't feel bad if you did, too.

Kathy - I came up with 10,990 also - however to correctly answer that question all of the things I posted on the Easy page plus were their any boys, birds or dogs aboard the bus. One dog with all those cats, and their may not have been any legs left on the bus.

Computation:
7 girls x 7 backbacks = 49

49 back backs x 7 large cats (improbable) = 343 big cats

343 big cats x 7 small cats (still in backpack ?) = 2401 little cats

Total cats 343 + 2401 = 2744 cats x 4 legs = 10976 legs.

7 girls x 2 legs = 14 more legs + 10976 = 10990 total legs.

I tried doing this one in my head (and failed miserably), but then my wireless conked out on me. So I actually pulled out some paper and worked it out..and I got it right! At first, I thought maybe it was a trick question b/c I read "How many legs are there _on_ the bus?" Then the answer would be zero, b/c buses don't have legs!

heh Kathy, thanks for the exercise for the grey matter!
Kept feeling that I was missing something intrinsic in the question and it was the fact that EACH girl had 7 back backs - easy peasy once th brain was able to accept such an illogical proposition!!!
Thought it rather bizarre that the brain could handle the thought that each back pack could hold/handle 56 cats [224legs] but NOT the thought of each girl having 7 back packs!! DUH!!
Very interesting exercise!
Ciao for now

Hi Kathy, thanks for popping by. Yes we did move to be closer to Daddy's work. Hong Kong is a vibrant, interesting city. But I'm not really a city girl and find living here rather complicated at present(6 months in). I suspect that if I take the time to learn Cantonese it will be easier, time will tell. But an amazing place to visit!

Thank you so much for dropping in and saying a quick "ello". To be truthfully, I had no idea the "t-shirt" concept was being taken so seriously, I really hadn't put any thought to the designs I submitted, it was all a bit of fun. Things are getting hectic here again, school is back, the older two are in their final year of high school, so its "make it or break it" time for them. Ballet commences again, and my little one is all geared up and ready to go for another year, which in turn means my fingers will be busy again.
Hope all is well in your side of the world, take care, chat soon.

Hello Kathy - Albany has become quite popular as a stopover for cruise ships going around Australia. Over the years we used to have the odd one every few years or more, but now we have them calling in regularly, but not stopping overnight, only during the day. The one in the photo was the first of the season and we are supposed to have about 14 berthing during this summer. We've already had a couple in, two small ones on the one day the other week and one called in unexpectedly last week due to bad weather.
Cheers
Anne
