Hello Kathy - Thanks for stopping by! I always enjoy company! We have hotwater heat in our house with a boiler system in the basement. We can heat the water with gas, coal or wood. We like the wood because it is a more cozy heat. That is why we have so much wood. We don't have a fire in the fireplace very often. My husband feels it lets too much heat out of the house. I love to hear a crackling fire! Thanks for being a "friend" and please stop again sometime! Merry Christmas to you and your family!

Hi Kathy! I'm slowly catching up on Sudoku after our long trip through Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, & Cambodia. Thank you for your birthday greeting on Dec. 4. I had a wonderful day which began when we watched the sun rise at Angkor Wat in Cambodia - unforgettable! We took MANY pictures which I will try to whittle down to our favorites & post on Flickr as soon as I can find time. Meanwhile, Rob & I would like to wish you & your family a Merry Christmas & Happy New Year. It will be 2009 before we know it!

Kathy, I just checked out your itinerary on the Route of the Mayas tour. Can't believe you are going to Tikal! Rob & I were there in 2006 & loved it. We were totally on our own (not with a tour group) so we had to find our own lodging. I discovered on the internet a great small hotel in El Remate not far from the entrance gate. I just sent you a link so you can read a little about it. We were so well taken care of by the owner & his family, & we have remained friends ever since. Rob really loves history, & we went to quite a few Mayan sites in both Guatemala & Mexico. Does your husband like history, too? Tikal became much better known after it was featured on one of the "Survivor" series! I wasn't that excited about the Mayan ruins, but I loved the wild monkeys we saw swinging all over in the trees there!!! Beautiful birds, too. I hope not too many people have discovered the place so it stays uncrowded, unlike some of the Mayan sites such as Chichan Itza & Tulum over near Cancun. Tourists arrive by the busloads at those places so they don't have the same mystique about them.

Kathy - I really enjoyed seeing your Gettysburg pictures. That is one place we would really like to travel to someday. We definitely have a full east coast tour in mind when our construction project is finished (someday...heavy sigh)!

We're going Up-the-River for the weekend, then back here Sunday or Monday; off to Wagga Wagga on Tuesday for Christmas with P's family. Back here Boxing Day, then Up-the-River again till after New Year! So I'll catch up with you next year!

PS We've been catching Blue Swimmer Crabs at the river recently so we're hoping for more this weekend! - haven't had time to turn my crab photo into smilie!!

Thank you, Kathy, for joining me in my mini memorial service to my Aunt. She had a lot of fun with life. It was difficult to let her pass without a funeral or memorial service, but that was her wish. Will miss her greatly.

How's the weather up there? Hate to brag , but our temps have been in the mid-to-upper 70s this week and are expected to last thru this weekend. The only problem is that I've had no excuse not to get out and work in the yard. Right now, my upper back and shoulders are killing me. Just kidding, it's been fun being outdoors, weather proofing the fence, sweating, pulling muscles... Well, maybe I wasn't kidding.

We will be spending Christmas in Charlotte with our older daughter and her family.
