Hi Kathy,
Many thanks for the warm welcome and for dropping by my page. Thanks for taking the time to have a look at my photo's. Next time you're around, would you please stop by and have another look? I had a bit of a fo-pa and ticked all the pictures to edit them. Unfortunately, I hit delete selected instead of edit selected, and they disappeared! Fancy that! My apologies for the mistake after you took the time to visit, and please feel free to drop by anytime.

Look forward to catching up with you around the site.
Thanks again
Kathi

I came here to note that your observation that most veterans don't want to talk about it is 'spot on,' as the Aussies say. Working in a defense plant, there were lots of Vets. I found that the intensity of their experience was inversely proportional to the willingness to talk. I worked with a man for 10 years and had no idea he was a Vietnam Vet- till he scratched his leg one day and I saw he had no calf.
"Land Mine" he said with a shrug.
Another fellow would not talk about war at all despite being manager of a group making artillery support equipment. As he got up and walked away from us one day, my manager said "Oh, no, we upset Ulysess"
It turned out that Uly had been the sargeant of a platoon that was wiped out. All HIS men killed. His three purple hearts and bronze star meant nothing to him - because he had survived and all his men died in the ambush.
Another man I had worked out with lashed out at a braggart one day, screaming at him that "You spent the f***ing war in Saigon at a desk or you wouldn't talk about it! I was at Khe Sahn!" and then showed the 8-inch scar on his arm. Two purple hearts.
"Freedom isn't Free"

Thanks Kathy for your comments yesterday. I'm sorry I ranted, there was no reason too, I just misinterpreted another comment on another page & took it personally ( my head told me it wasn't! This person wouldn't do that!). I've had a lot of other things happening & I guess the little thing just burst the bubble & I raved about that because I couldn't rave about the other!!

You're right, Lynn is such a patient lady. Actually we ganged up on him and got him dressed for the occasion. Remember when you were little and a small brother, yours or your friends, was dressed accordingly? Well it was the same!

I'm back been a little too busy of late. You may enjoy my post on (I believe) pg 2, about what I've been doing. There is also another post on (I believe) pg 3, about the fires in So. Cal. I got more Tulips planted today - only 150 to go. Tomorrow, I'm working on a mailing for Britt. It would be nice to get another 30 in tomorrow. If it doesn't rain till the day before Thanksgiving - I should be able to get them all planted. Hope, Hope, Hope.

Dear Kathy,

Thank you so much for your words of comfort. Losing a family member is always difficult, but when it is a younger sibling, it is especially traumatic. I truly appreciate the outpouring of love and prayers from all my Sudoku friends.

Hi Kathy. Thank you for your kind comments on my photos. The Mystery Castle story is really strange. I got lots of hits when I googled it. I decided that Wikipedia summed it up pretty well.
I took a look at your gallery and I'm impressed. I've done quite a bit of travelling but have never been to S America or Eqypt. We had planned on a trip to Machu Picchu but my doctor advised against it because of the elevation. Oh, well, your pictures helped.

Kathy - got the tree up and the dining room decorated with snowflakes (not Christmas per se because we have a big winter birthday party next weekend when my oldest daughter and 3 of her friends all share a birthday weekend, she and a friend are turning 21, the others are turning 20 and 22). Only a little shopping done so far (no $$ ) but am writing out cards today since it's too snowy to do anything else. Oh, and I redecorated my Sudoku page for Christmas. Come on over and keep in touch.

Kathy, I got a reply to a Thanksgiving card I had sent to Rob. She said Bruce had died on Thanksgiving day, after a long battle with kidney disease. His Funeral was to be this past Thursday with a "celebration of his life" afterward. That is all I know. I wrote back asking if I could post on the board or notify anyone from the board for her. I have not received an answer to that yet. I thought I could put that note on her page, and if friends were checking up on her there, they would find it. I was soo shocked to hear, as I had not heard of his being sick. I have missed Rob on the board for a while and thought somethng might be going on.

That is all I know, hope to hear from her again soon.

Tricia

Oh, Kathy -- just got "home" and noticed the wonderful and thoughtful gifts you left. I've already nibbled some grapes and brie -- yummy, creamy, earthy brie. Well, you didn't say "Do Not Open Until Christmas!

I can't post pictures, but I can leave you some egg nog and whisky and a pecan pie. Oh, and some alka-seltzer in case you need some bubbly after you're finished.
