Shiela, Thought I would answer your question here rather than on todays medium. Yes, this lily is of the Lilium family. I always heard {was told}that if it had black/brown dots/spots it was a tiger lily. The lilys growing along the sides of the road are called ditch lilies here. I have some pictures of my husbands day lilies, I think there are 5 pictures, he has over 200 different named lilies. There are also several pictures of my Lilium [ornamental] named lilies in my gallery. I have over 20 different colors of lilies, and have added 5 more this year.
Hope this has not confused you more about lilies.
Lily - (i.e. a wild Hemerocallis). The ones that are so prevelant along our Michigan roadsides this time of year. This looks more in the Easter Lily family of 'Lilium' to me considering the foliage.
So... Are BOTH considered 'Tiger Lilies' depending what is locally accepted?

Shiela,

In answer to your question on oxygen seasonality, the answer is yes, but only very slightly. The earth's atmosphere is in constant circulation which over time makes the atmosphere homogeneous. References to major volcanic events tell us that within 3 or 4 days of a major eruption, the effects are felt/seen in the atmosphere world-wide.

Shiela, thanks for stopping by with your cheerful birthday wishes. Hubby and I (and the three mousekateers) had a great time. All three seem healthy and happy these days, which is a relief. Dare I say we might get away for a brief escape to NYC in the fall? We'll see how Holmes is doing and whether our neighbour feels comfortable administering his pills ... Hope all is well with you at your end and you're not suffering too much in the heat! Take care and visit anytime!

Shiela, I love your quotation on your page! I should visit you more often. Thank you for the birthday wish of more photo opportunities - that's the best thing anyone could wish for me! I love the beauty of this area and I must be out enjoying it for those opportunities to occur. Your presence makes this site even more enjoyable - thanks again!

Oh, Shiela, I'm so sorry about Tuxedo. I know too well the terrible loss you feel and how losing a beloved member of your family hurts. You were a devoted and dedicated mom to Tuxedo and gave him every chance to be healthy and happy. Your love for him undoubtedly added many months to his life, so take comfort in that. I'm here for you, my friend, anytime you want to share a memory or a story. Pets give their love and trust to us unconditionally and your Tuxedo sounds like he was a great gift to you. Bless you for taking such good care of him and know that I'm keeping you in my thoughts and prayers.

Shiela so sorry you lost your beloved kitty, Tuxedo. As I recall he was a very pretty cat. I am sure he will be greatly missed, however you and your family have many fond memories of him.

Just dropping in to let you know you are in my thoughts today. As my Holmes is "celebrating" his 16th birthday, I know how much you miss Tuxedo sitting on your lap. Here's hoping you find moments during your day when happy memories of your loving companion warm your heart.

Hey Shiela! We had eyeballs in the punch at our Halloween Down-Under party, but they were like ping-pong balls (floating). I would have loved to have some that were creepy squishy!

Hi Sheila,
That your people are living close to Merapi must be very worrying for you. It is treacherous. I have been close to it (in about 1999). There have been recent suggestions it may 'explode' - with a really big bang. The photos I have seen show a fairly thick layer of ash nearby from the three recent eruptions.
My Indonesian friend is busy helping with the tsunami relief on the Mentawai Islands in West Sumatra. They have been hampered by stormy weather and the inaccessibility of the islands. The storm has been impeding both supply helicopters and ships. Many villages have been destroyed there and the waves were much bigger than has been reported by the International media (in reality at least 10 metres high). I hope your family remain safe.

Congratulations on the expected twins, Shiela! Double Grandmother duty ... how wonderful!

And good wishes to your 95-year-old mom! My MIL turned 95 last July, too. I'm still not sure that I want to live that long, but if I can be in as good of shape as those two, I might consider it!

Shiela - congratulations are in order for you and your family. Was the great-great grandchild there & if so: did anyone get a photo with your mom holding her great-great & that branch of the family?

Next: have you gotten the family history from her? Has she written names on all the photos she & your siblings have? I tried to get my MIL to complete a book (I believe called "Golden Leaves") - she never did.

My Paternal Grandmother had left me an old photo album (even had Tin-types) with the people identified and how they related to me. I found out about my uncle's, a great aunt's & a great uncle's biographies and got my dad to write up WWII and an aunt to go through old photos she had, then - put the charts together and ended up with over a 100 page document for my cousins & their kids that was interesting reading & filled with photos.

My Maternal Grandmother left her family chart and supporting notes written in 1914. With research on the internet I have built that file to over 7000 records going back to the 1400 in England.

You or your siblings may want to talk to your mom and RECORD what she can remember about her childhood & growing up - school, her siblings - memories & parents stories, the roaring 20's, the depression, war years - and look through old photos with her identifing who's who.

For your children and grands - write your memoirs of your childhood - stories about you & your siblings & cousins. Someday they will enjoy it - oh yes - don't forget to identify who the people are in the photos (maybe even when & where).

Hello Shiela - thanks for your concern about my friend's home. She rang me last night to say everything was fine, except the smell of smoke, but she was able to open the house up and put the airconditioner on and get rid of most of the smell.
Cheers,
Anne

Hi Shiela. Thanks for your birthday wishes. I'm off to a great start with greetings from so many Sudoku friends. Since you asked about my "bucket list" for next year I will let you be the first to know that we have booked a trip to Antarctica for Dec. 19, 2011. Hi Shiela! I have missed you, too! This project turned into a bigger one than we imagined! Rick has been very busy! We didn't get electricity until late October. (Mountain time is very sllooowww!) Then the drains needed to be hooked up, the furnace, the well, and the decks needed to go on. We are really looking forward to going back and relaxing!
