Thanks for your message, André. Yes, I did have a lovely day, pottering around the garden in the sunshine. Pete cooked the dinner - roast pork & all the trimmings, and we washed it down with a bottle of Chateauneuf du Pape 1997 - yummy! Thanks for your thoughts for today - I always look for them. xx

Hi andré. Nice to hear from you. We are doing quite well, settled into some home time to recharge the batteries after the Australia trip. We've been visiting relatives and playing in the garden. Hope things go well with you too. Take care.

Andre, Mönchengladbach is almost on the Dutch border, Dusseldorf is directly east of Mönchengladbach. Dortmund is east and slightly north of Dusseldorf. I don't have mileage but if you did any exploring it is more than possible you have been there.

Hi Andre
I've been in bed with the flu for the last couple of days so haven't been on the computer. Thanks for your tip. It's amazing, my wife rang an old school friend on Tuesday night only to discover they had only just come back from exactly the same tour my wife was planning run by Globus Tours. What they are looking to do is to stay an additional week IN Tuscany or Amalfi. The web is wonderful for searching for information. Thanks again.

Andre, thank you for dropping in to my page with birthday greetings. Having so many cyber friends brightens every day but is extra nice to hear from so many on my birthday.

Also, thanks for the comments on my birthday quilt. That was a great group of quilters who exchanged birthday blocks a few years ago, and I had such fun receiving each one and then planning a quilt setting to show them off to best advantage.

Hi Andre
Thanks for the birthday wishes. I had a wonderful day. Cup of tea in bed, then breakfast and present opening, then tap dancing, followed by late lunch, a bit of quiet time and then dinner out at a really really nice Italian local restaurant.

Sorry I don't visit the site so often these days, but have had an e-mail and wedding photos from Billy and hope to get to Wangaratta for the jazz festival and catch up with Rosemary there: however, accommodation is "packed to the rafters" and we haven't secured a booking yet. Here's hoping.

I miss the early days of sudoku friendships and it's good to know that quite a few have withstood the difficulties of time and distance. Cheers (hic!) Gloria

Enjoyed your photos of Dorset. I had to get the British Road Atlas out to find Beer. We generally visit Swanage but have not been to Beer. Looks a quaint place.

Hi andré. Always nice to hear from you. We were in a famous old San Francisco restaurant called the Cliff House. It is on the ocean side, a few blocks from the restaurant where we had the SF Sudoku party. I hope things go well with you.

Hi andré
Woke up and listened on radio to last two hours starting at 5pm your time. Couldn't be bothered getting up to watch TV. Hoping for good weather for tonight our time.
Funnily enough my wife's sister is booking today and they are going on 17th October, 13 day bus tour right around Italy then some time in Rome, Tuscany and Monarco.Hopefully it won't be too cool by then. They will be away for almost 4 weeks. We went to renew our passports today and things have changed since last time. Birth extract which my wife has always used is not sufficient. You must have a full birth certificate now. Hopefully that will not hold things up too much. Mine was okay but I'm not going anywhere.

Oh, Andre, aren't you something, remembering my hubby ... We had a lovely picnic planned, had everything spread out beautifully--food nicely arranged on plates, wine poured, then the sky opened up and pelted us with rain! In case you were wondering, we finished our meal, drank our wine, and then ran to the car. No sense letting all that food and wine go to waste! Tomorrow night we're going to an evening of jazz in our botanical gardens--how much do you want to bet it will rain again?

Hi andré

I don't regard travelling as a holiday. I tend to stress about missing planes and hotel rooms not being available. My idea of a holiday is to go to a Pacific Island and have someone deliver regular canapés and drinkies. My wife has been to Italy before, many years ago but this time is travelling with her two sisters who haven't been there. They are Catholics so that is an additional attraction.
I have tentatively agreed next year to go on a Greek Island cruise followed by a trip up the Nile if the political situation is okay. That will only mean three flights and very few accommodation changes.
The next test starts Thursday at Headingly so hopefully the weather will hold. It seems to me there is not much differnce between the two teams.
Cheers
David
