Hi Ray, I haven't had much time over the last couple of days to get on the site and hadn't noticed your birthday had passed. I enjoy reading your musings, poetry and scientific comment and look forward to reading many, many more of your posts.
Even though it's belated,

Hello Ray - thanks for checking out my latest photos. I love visiting the north and this is the first time I've been there when the wildflowers are in bloom. It was certainly worth seeing them.
Cheers,

Hi Ray. I was quite impressed by your poem 'Education of Life' and I thank you for it. I do hope you re-post it on your page so others can see it in the future, as it will disappear in time being only on the Easy Sudoku page. I didn't find it pessimistic other then dealing with the pain and aggravation of aging ailments. If anything, it ended on an optimistic note that hopefully others can have as their lives wear down. Well done my friend. Thanks again!

Ray, regarding "Humbling Discovery," a very good poem, but in my mind, you have many things that could have been explained somewhat differently. Many people today live a 'life reduced to trash' so possibly a better phrase would have been 'a life reduced to ash.' You might have mentioned earlier that the 'collective mind' is often driven and altered by the minds of few who have great vision (i.e. - Copernicus, da Vinci, Jules Verne, Frank Hebert, Isaac Asimov, Arthur Clarke, etc., etc, etc.) In many cases their 'fiction, which really can't be true' has in reality turned out to be true, and has helped shape the collective mind. However, you redeem yourself in the last verse by pointing out that their 'inventive consciousness' has spurred on mankind's thoughts. I'm not sure of the use of the word 'pride' at the end. How does that fit?

CG,
I am delighted to have your criticism.
I take on board most of the points you make. Some of them I had already considered, although your word ‘ash’ is certainly better than ‘trash’ – I agree and for the reasons you state.
In the poem I wanted to get one main point across – being that the vastness of the Universe belittles mankind and accordingly we need to adjust by patting ourselves on the back and saying that although we are ‘small’ in the cosmos, we are significant – rather than give way to a huge inferiority complex.
There might be a better way of explaining the need to maintain human confidence – other than using the word ‘pride’ – however I am working under the restraint of rhyme.
In this context (alone) we need to cultivate ‘pride’ – but generally outside the context pride (in Science) is a bad thing.
I think raising the names of the creative famous complicates things and raises a whole new can of worms.
However I am going to work the more on this poem. In that I must maintain the main singular message but try to tailor in some other ideas such as the ones you hint at.
