Happy Birthday Gail - if it's anything like your picture, it will be fab!

Wow - you have so many pages for being a less-than-a-year member! I'm not sure if I welcomed you, so (just in case) I've also brought a platter of my best Maryland crabcakes for your birthday repast/belated page-warmer.

Gail - yes I know well what she is going through, and 6 months ago my cousin who moved up to Oregon 3 years ago died with his wife and 42 y/o son (retarded due to brain damage from an accident as a teen). I spent 4 days with her, helping get things together, letting her know it was all right to morn & she had a son to care for - that needed her. She was in a bad way. She came down for both Thanksgiving & Christmas & has been back to California twice in the last 6 months. The 6 month anniversary of his death was tough on her.

I know that the time friends are really needed is after the service and family have all left and reality starts to sink in. This is when friends calling, caring & visiting are most needed, to be sure they do get on with their life - the speed of which is dependent upon how much of their life was tied up in their marriage and how much of a life they had of their own. This Gayle has a very full life, involved in many activities, it should be easier for her than it still is for my cousin's wife.

I got on with my life by a complete change - moving to a place where I knew no one, but a place that we both had loved and were considering moving to - Southern Oregon. I believe God had a reason for me to move here, not sure why yet, but I do know I have touched some lives and others have touched mine. I feel blessed to live in such a wonderful community and have my old friends and my new, also the friends here in Sudokuland.

An update on my niece, Beth: She is doing better although is still in serious condition. She had two units of blood to raise her blood pressure and that helped quite a lot. The infection has settled into her hip and she has no use of that leg at present. She is on a morphine pump so it must be quite painful. They are testing to see if the bacteria is out of her blood stream. When it is, she'll go on IV antibiotics for about 6 weeks, I guess. Thanks for thinking of her. I sent all of the well wishes on to her.

Hi Gail,

I'm so glad you liked the daffodils! They're my favorite, too. I think it's because they're only around for a short time each year (like cherries, my favorite fruit); that, plus they have such an interesting shape. I wish I could take credit for some of those photos, but, alas, I haven't had any opportunity to do that. But now, I can look at loads of wonderful photos other folks are willing to share. Even better, I can share them again with more folks and spread the joy. So, I'm glad you enjoyed them, that was, after all, the whole idea!

Have a lovely day,
Jenn

for thinking of me. When I saw the doctor on monday, I told him I thought one one the eye drops was hurting my sinus, because it was running. So he took me off two of them. Two days later I have the flu. Your right it never rain, but that it pours at lease somewhere.

I ask you, Gail, do I need such drama in my life? What a crazy/awful ride this was, but the angst is truly over. Now my husband informs me of how lucky I am to be able to watch him grow more handsome as the years pass ...
Once again, I'm touched by the sincere kindness of friends from everywhere who, during scary times, never let us walk alone. You, my wonderful, friend, are the absolute best. Have a terrific weekend, and raise a glass to salute the existence of miracles.

PHILLIPS SCREWDRIVER:
Normally used to stab the vacuum seals under lids or for opening old-style paper-and-tin oil cans and splashing oil on your shirt; but can also be used, as the name implies, to strip out Phillips screw heads.

STRAIGHT SCREWDRIVER:
A tool for opening paint cans. Sometimes used to convert common slotted screws into non-removable screws.

PRY BAR:
A tool used to crumple the metal surrounding that clip or bracket you needed to remove in order to replace a 50 cent part.

HOSE CUTTER:
A tool used to make hoses too short.

HAMMER:
Originally employed as a weapon of war, the hammer nowadays is used as a kind of divining rod to locate the most expensive parts adjacent the object we are trying to hit.

MECHANIC'S KNIFE:
Used to open and slice through the contents of cardboard cartons delivered to your front door; works particularly well on contents such as seats, vinyl records, liquids in plastic bottles, collector magazines, refund checks, and rubber or plastic parts. Especially useful for slicing work clothes, but only while in use.

DAMMIT TOOL:
Any handy tool that you grab and throw across the garage while yelling 'DAMMIT' at the top of your lungs. It is also, most often, the next tool that you will need.

Thanks for the welcome back message... I have been lurking occasionally, but not here anywhere near as much as I would like. My brother in law is very ill and that is taking a lot of my time. Plus I got behind at work when Dick was so sick, so I have been rushing madly for the past three months. Finally things are settling, I think. Thanks again.
